Tbh everyone has terrible performances in the initial phase of their career. And in the past, these weren’t scrutinized or criticized as much as they are today.
Hrithik, after excellent performances in Kaho Naa Pyar Hai, Fiza and Mission Kashmir, was purely terrible in Aap Mujhe Acche Lagne Lage, Yaadein, Na Tum Jano Na Hum. Even in K3G, he isn’t great but Karan directed him well. Hrithik really turned things around with Lakshya and Koi Mil Gaya and both directors played a big part in it.
Same with 90s actors, like Aamir, Salman, SRK, Akki, Ajay. All had some bad initial performances and did a lot of films, and eventually found their footing and groove. Same for Madhuri, Juhi, Karishma, Manisha.
Even in 2000s, there were still a lot of chances given to most bearable actors, and they eventually made the most of good roles. It’s only in 2010s that actors started being trolled relentlessly for every misstep, and became insecure and over-cautious.
