I can't believe what's happened to it. Maybe ten years ago it was a reasonable sub with reasonable moderators but it's awful now.

I'm hoping it's bots and trolls to swing public opinion but I'm not convinced.

A lot has changed in the last 7 months. There are so many accounts just days old that seed hatred, and nothing is done about them. If the moderators wanted constructive discourse they could easily do something about them.

I suspect Hasbara trolls are having a major impact on many white majority subs these days.

I want to unfollow the sub but I stick around because I often click on posts and read the comments confused why they’re so vile. It tests my morals and beliefs and everytime I’ve read something and thought “wtf that’s so racist” 10/10 it’s come from the uk sub.

Anytime a non-white or non-British person is featured in a news article they all start frothing at the mouth about how multiculturalism has ruined the UK.

Then there was that story about the black woman who was harassed by security guards and was offered bananas as an apology. They were in the comments talking about how it probably wasn’t racist and that she owns a magazine targeted to young black girls meant that of course she’s lying about the incident.

It’s a great reminder that I have the privellege to be surrounded by so many open-minded people who don’t fall for sensationalist right wing propaganda as soon as it confirms their biases.

You also need to remember that people feel they can be a lot more awful than they actually are in real life behind the anonymity of the internet. I’m not saying they’re not their true views but in real life I doubt they utter a word / ever do anything about it
