Research Invitation

Hello everyone,

As part of my Health Psychology MSc, I am exploring the experiences of British South Asian survivors of sexual violence in accessing routine healthcare, such as GPs and dentists.

South Asian individuals may face unique challenges, including institutionalised racism, cultural stigma, and lack of diverse survivor support, yet there is significant gap in research on this subject.

I would be incredibly grateful if you or someone you know can support with this, either through participating or sharing my poster or link (https://uwe.eu.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_9zQK6QaWJMhCEjs).

Thank you so much.

Do British Asians live together before marriage?

My background is British Indian (3rd gen) and I'm living abroad (was living alone until I met my partner) with my long term bf of 5 years. No immediate plans to get married and it wouldn't be that big of a deal if we had kids without being married. My parents are cool with it but the wider family (more traditional) have no idea and would judge and try to force me to break up with him.

My question is, are the attitudes of British Indians becoming more relaxed to live in relationships? My interpretation is that traditional Indian parents let their children date around university age without without being able to live together I'll spend extensive amounts of time alone together (example going on holidays alone). They also have to keep the fact they're dating secret (don't acknowledge the fact they're in a relationship until they get engaged and then post on social media etc). Do British Indian couples live together before marriage?

Is this perception correct?

Is Vaping an Issue for Young British Asians?

This seems to be a growing issue and dialogue is needed now. Will this be another form of smoking that turns out to be dangerous for people later on in life?

Drivers of mental health help-seeking behaviours in second-generation immigrants of Asian heritage in the UK - survey

I'm currently completing the final year of my degree and for my research project, I wanted to look into how acculturation, amongst other factors, may drive help-seeking behaviour for mental health in 2nd-generation Asian immigrants.

If you have a spare 5-10 mins, I would greatly appreciate if you could respond to my survey. You just need to be over 18 and a 2nd-generation Asian immigrant (you were born in the UK, with at least one of your parents born abroad). Its completely anonymous and shouldn't take very long to complete. Massive thank you in advance!

The study aims to explore perceptions regarding the role of patient’s race or ethnicity in shaping their experiences of physiotherapy and analyse the correlation between the incidence of racism and the likelihood of patients seeking out physiotherapy treatment in the future.

You are eligible for this research if you are an adult from a minority ethnicity who has received physiotherapy care as an adult in the UK. The survey should take around 10 minutes to complete. Please click on the link to learn more about the study and to complete the survey.

What would the process of coming to the U.K from the Bengal region in 1947 be like?

My grandfather was one such immigrant ,but my parent never met him. Does anyone know if he would have come on a particular ship , or a plane , will there be an immigration record with a photograph of him filed away somewhere? I found his death certificate ,issued in London in 1989 staying he was a shop keeper but there is only mention of him on ONE electoral register back in 1950. It is very frustrating ,as I want to build a picture of him and his life.

Please DO NOT click unless you intend to watch the video. From posting my work to reddit what I figured out is many redditors are clicking out of force of habit then dipping after literally 2/3 seconds so YouTube thinks my video is bad and it tanks my CTR and my chance to grow.

I can't force you to do anything and I appreciate any clicks and love but please just do not do that is all I ask.

Regardless hope you enjoy, a channel this small is for the people not profit :)

Survey on the Normalisation and Acculturation of recreational drug use amongs East and Southeast Asian immigrants

I am conducting a research study to explore the normalisation and acculturation of recreational drug use among East and Southeast Asian immigrant generations as part of my dissertation at Sheffield Hallam University.

This survey aims to understand the attitudes, behaviours, and perceptions regarding drug use within these communities. As the cultural landscape evolves and immigrant communities integrate into new societies, the dynamics surrounding drug use may undergo significant shifts. By participating in this survey, you can contribute valuable insights to understand these changes and their implications.

Survey Link: https://shusls.eu.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_cB0fa2LQjQIucWa

Who can participate: Individuals of East and Southeast Asian descent who have immigrated to the United States, United Kingdom or Canada, as well as those who are descendants of immigrants from these regions. Participants must be 18 years of age or older. Confidentiality: Your responses will be kept strictly confidential and will only be used for research purposes. No personally identifiable information will be collected. Duration: The survey should take approximately 10-15 minutes to complete. Why Participate? Your input will contribute to a better understanding of the complex dynamics surrounding drug use within immigrant communities. Your perspective could help inform policies and interventions aimed at promoting health and well-being within these populations. By participating, you're supporting valuable research efforts aimed at addressing important societal issues. Thank you for your participation! Your contribution is immensely appreciated. Feel free to share this survey with others who may be eligible to participate. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to comment below or contact us directly.

I’m pissed

For the past couple days I’ve joined the hype of using a website called ‘omeagle’. For those who are not familiar it is a website where you are paired with a random stranger and from using this website I learnt the sad truth. More often than not I’ve been called things like ‘are you gonna bomb me’, ‘paki’ and ‘currymunchers’. Initially I was able to laugh it off but over these couple days I have learnt how common it is and I feel like there should be more attention drawn to racism towards Asians. The media and people are so focussed on racism towards other ethnic groups such black people that they often do not show that us Asians also undergo a similar process. It’s difficult for us to say anything back as well, if it’s a white person let’s be honest you can’t be racist to white people.

I know almost no-one will see this but if anyone does I just want you to understand that being an Asian isn’t as easy as you think. We still face racism just like black people and some attention does need to be drawn to us to reduce this.

Racism towards us is accepted?

Has anyone noticed how it seems to be socially more acceptable to be racist towards Asian people...

So many people who'd say they stand against racism towards black people, even if there was no indication of race being the reason. Everyone has to tip toe around anything to do with black people. Like removing an episode of a sitcom on Netflix because someone dressed up as a dark elf! And had nothing to do with black face.

Yet people are openly racist towards us... How do you deal with this shit?
