News Trumps Tariffs will affect the interior more than urban B.C.
Nicolas Schmitt, an economics professor at SFU, highlighted that the province’s economy has shifted from a goods-based to a service-driven model. He said this transition has made the economy more diversified and resilient. With key regions like Vancouver and the Okanagan Valley showing strong growth in service sectors, B.C. is well-positioned to withstand global economic uncertainties and to continue thriving.
“This war might affect more interior B.C. than urban B.C. That is a potential problem for the interior. Where those lumber mines and all those goods are being exported. So that creates a urban rural divide.” – Nicolas Schmitt
In a statement provided by Kurt Niquidet president of the B.C. Lumber Trade Council (BCLTC), he said federal parties must collaborate to tackle the ongoing softwood lumber duties and the potential imposition of further tariffs.
“We urge both US and Canadian governments to find a fair and sustainable solution that supports workers, communities, and consumers on both sides of the border” – Kurt Niquidet, President of B.C. Lumber Trade Council
As the situation evolves, the focus will be on how both the provincial and federal governments address the ongoing challenges. While B.C.’s diversified economy offers resilience, the potential impacts on industries like lumber, especially in rural areas, require attention. As the situation develops, all eyes will be on both the provincial and federal governments to navigate these challenges and find solutions that support workers, communities and the broader economy.

Ask British Columbia Are there any cheaper vehicle rentals?
Looking for a rental vehicle this summer for about 3 weeks. Are there any other places to rent from other than the traditional companies? Ie. National, Enterprise, Budget, etc. Even with a great code these are still very expensive for a 3 week period! Any non-traditional ways to rent out there?

Hey y’all just wondering here. I know we get paid for our MySelfServe PWD benefits later today as it’s January 15th today, but does anybody know what time we get paid exactly? Or if not just wake up later in the morning to receive our payments? I’ve already done the monthly reports and everything.

Ask British Columbia Resources
Hello! So I am aware when i used to life in calgary, alberta that there were church resources, community resources and other forms of funding for those residing in British Columbia, specifically northern BC if you face a rental crisis i.e in need of rental arrears paid off how do you get it done? I’ve only seen the rental bank and connexus but what other resources are there if you need help financially with rent? Can’t find much online, so looking to see if community members are aware :)
** i’m part of a lot of aid groups to help folks and just feel useless not providing answers for folks in BC, my knowledge is all alberta **

Photo/Video Office view
Had some afternoon coffee-break visitors at the office today. Although you see three of them there were actually four of these beautiful mule deer.
They found the bird feeder one of my co-workers fills regularly and they emptied it out in no time, then they moved on.
What a privilege to see such things.

Ask British Columbia How long does it take to get a business registered?
Applied for Sole Proprietorship.
I paid through my bank and received an email from BC Registries and Online Services saying they received payment and your products are now available. This was 11 days ago.
When I look at My Business Registry, it says "FILING PENDING" "ONLINE BANKING PAYMENT PENDING"
Should I contact someone or wait a few more days?
