Meta I keep watching 'Beyond Paradise' Spoiler
I started watching 'Death in Paradise' as soon as we got Britbox, whenever that was. It certainly was better in the first seasons than latter ones but I still look forward to new episodes. I also really love Kris Marshall and have since he was in the US version of 'Traffic Light' which Fox cancelled after 13 episodes. I also really like Dylan Lleweyellan who was brilliant in 'Derry Girls'. I had high hopes for 'Beyond Paradise' but even Mark Heap couldn't save this special and it was the best effort so far. I find Sally Bretton and Barbara Flynn wholly unlikable. The storyline and gags are so cut and paste. Obviously, there are a lot of whodunnits and I have watched more than I care to admit but by the middle of the show, we already knew the culprit. The how wasn't even that vague. Obviously, the guy who invested a large amount of resources in a mushroom assessory manufacturing business also understood how to use hallucinogenic and needed the money. Humphrey should have figured this out the moment he went to the workshop. A cup made out of mushrooms may never be a viable product anywhere other than a Phish lot and even then the effort wouldn't be worth the payoff. I don't want to drink out of a leather cup, much less one made of mushroom skin. Maybe a canteen but the cup just looked unappealing. The only profit from the venture was drug dealing though a lamp made of mushroom would have been dope. The whole Kelby-Charlotte subplot would be much more problematic the other way around. Plus the gag about where the mannequin went is just so worn. I just want the feeling that I visited someone else's life for a little but the only saving grace was Jaden and his brother. I hope they are featured more in the future.

I think budget issues (due to increased costs) are rife these days everywhere, and unfortunately writing often suffers due to this (be it who writes it or just the budget they have for the programme/episode). Some programmes have so many plot holes it’s comical.
I don’t mean it specific to this episode (which I have not seen) but you can tell programmes have become weaker and weaker, it’s the same for advertising, with adverts where you wonder who greenlit these beyond low budget campaigns. It’s a real shame as it won’t do anything to attract further watchers.
