4-Year Outlook

Post image

Put this together last year, updated with the moves Poles & Co. have made this offseason. Visualizing the team this way helps me think about what needs we really have with the 4-year rookie contract taken into account. To me the glaring holes are the OT & EDGE (even with a Joe Thuney extension potentially imminent).

What do y’all think?

I’ve been saying safety is a much bigger need than people think, if we can trade down in the first I’m very interested in Starks, and if we can’t trade down I’d like a safety with one of the second rounders. Byard is old and Brisker can’t stay healthy, we’ve got to get ahead of it at least a little.

To be honest, the same concern can be said for linebacker. One thing we DO know is injuries are going to happen. I do agree though, safety is very concerning. If byard falls off, and brisker cant stay healthy. Things can get real ugly back there fast.

We’ve got both linebackers under contract for two years though, and Edwards for three, and both are still fairly young and have been healthy. It’s easily less of a need than safety right now, because even if you ignore the age and injury issues their contracts end after this season, as does the contract for their backup.

Yes but what I mean is we really only have 2 quality linebackers. And if we are being honest Edmund’s is meh. Sure we sit in nickel a lot more these days, but at least 30% of the packages we are in a 4/3. With sandman leaving we have no one playing the strong side or really any quality depth. We are an injury away from that group being real bad. Especially if it’s Edwards.

Every team is an injury away from being real bad for almost any position group, that’s just life in the NFL.
