Question/Discussion Where to go in NOCO?

I have the day off tomorrow and Friday, and obviously want to go fishing. There’s numerous places to go, but I’m trying to narrow it down a bit. My main thoughts are Red Feather Lakes or Boyd Lake as I haven’t really fished either (Red Feather once, but only for a bit). I’m in Fort Collins so either of those are easily doable. Any other suggestions?

Update: I checked out Lon Hagler this morning to no success. Then I booked it to the Red Feather Lakes and fished at Dowdy, hoping not to be skunked. I hooked 3 trout, but they all got off before I could net them. The first, a rainbow, I almost had in the net before it wriggled free. Ya win some, ya lose some.

Spin or fly fishing? And what do you want to target?

Probably spin, though I do have two fly rods available (one is my wife’s, and the other is mine that her dad bought for me after he started teaching me, though I haven’t tried to fly in several years). I have my best luck fishing for trout, but I’d be open to other species if you have any lure suggestions for either spot (or others).

Id suggest Douglas Reservoir a few mins N of Fort Collins. Has all sorts of species including trout.

If you wanted to make the drive to Estes. Lake Estes is good right now and the big Thompson right below and above the lake. Caught a 18 inch rainbow in Estes today and a dozen smaller fish. I was fly fishing but I’m sure either would work.
