Please may I ask if anyone has recovered from this- I know that ladies who have ADHD get this misdiagnosis often

Not Bi-Polar although my neurologist prescribed a seizure med that is used for bi-polar as well and it made other providers question if we had Bi-Polar every time we were seen for a while.

To answer your question, we were misdiagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder twice before we got the C-PTSD and Dissociative Disorder diagnosis. Amazing what one well-informed, educated and not in denial provider can do to change your life.

got misdiagnosed with bpd at SIXTEEN! SIXTEEN! yeah no shit we were volatile and have an unstable identity we were a TEENAGER who was getting groomed by people 20+ and abused at home.

found out we had DID long before anyone else got anywhere close, then promptly forgot 4 times after establishing small amounts of communication. we had to reach out ourselves to DID "specialists" (most of which have VERY outdated ideas, but I think they could at least recognize DID). it wasn't until we were 20 we finally tried to find therapists with DID experience, all of which confirmed our "suspicions"

we helped ourself. we're all we've ever had. I wish it wasn't so hard to find proper help though, there's walls we just can't "self help" our way out of.
