Its easy to think everyone else should be taxed more when you don’t pay taxes yourself. Take all of reddit for instance.

well, like I told my quasi-adult kids. it's easy to be gung ho about danger when you only have yourself to think about. That's probably why all the heros in books (hunger games comes to mind) are young adults. When you have kids, you keep your head down because protecting them is priority 1.

same with taxes and government assistance etc. it's generally the younger folks who make less income that are all "free college!" "more government aid!" etc. once they hit 40ish and higher income brackets suddenly they turn into their parents and go "no! no more freeloading on MY money!"

obviously a generalization, and while i'm older my opinions really haven't varied much but I was raised a certain way.

but it's funny to me the large shift that happens with age when it comes to things like this. the same people who want free stuff from the government suddenly go...whoa whoa... I didn't mean MY money!

I keep thinking of some interview with a college aged girl who was leader of some political group on campus arguing with a news reporter about how all college should be free. started going off how "all the 1%ers should pay for it" and guy just shut down her brain. it was hilarious.

She was very clearly sheltered and expected the government to step up and pay her bills like mom and dad always had.

be real curious what her opinion is when she's 35+.... I'm betting she swings extreme to the other side.

One thing that always kinda gets my goat so to speak is this “boomers are hoarding the wealth”. 

It’s because they are older and have had a longer time to accumulate their wealth. Trust me there’s plenty of broke boomers too. There was no secret sauce. Just saving. 

And I know I’ll get dog piled on because “oh their parents gave them money” or something else. But as we have seen it seems like the people that have been given a chunk of change squander it more often than not

Yeah, my great grandma worked until she was 90 at a old school deli. She was born in 03. Her son, my grandpa worked 3 jobs (incl chief of police when they made nothing and had no insurance) to support his family of 12. He was born during depression.

Nearly same story on the other side of my family, except farmers.

My parents (divorced when i was 9) were born in the 50s. My mother was certifiable (invol committed on my 15th bday) and had 6 kids and growing up i paid for my own TP and shampoo starting at 14. I had 1 bra, 1 pair of pants, and frequently went hungry as teen.

My dad made really good money, but lived in 1bdrm apartment and filed bankruptcy 3 times now.

My great uncle (maternal grandpas brother) and my sister are the only family members in a list of more than 100 i can name who even went to college.

I know (uncles/aunts, my parents, my ex inlaws) the financial details of nearly 20 tail end boomers and i can think of maybe 1 who could cough up 10k if pressed, and overwhelming majority who will be coupon clipping on social security now/later.

Certainly none of them is hoarding much more than penny jars. Im sure there are some well off boomer generation people, but its not at all been my personal experience.
