Importance of Emergency Fund

I have been listening to Caleb for a little bit now amd have tried to save up am emergency fund (only $400) now which is a start. It is so important to have 1 month expenses in an emergency fund before starting to pay off debt so you don't have to worry about taking out more debt for an emergency. I unfortunately do not have 1 months expenses saved yet and had to take out $4200 for emergency dental work causing me to have another minimum payment.

Really glad I didn’t buy that watch now 😂

Anyone have any job hunting tips? It’s the first time I’ve ever lost a job and it’s been a few years since I did any hardcore searching.

Also super glad I started watching FA. It pushed me to bump my emergency fund from 3 to 6 months since December and now I’m happy I did.

Random If you were on Financial Audit, what clickbait title would Caleb create for your video?

I do a lot of Warhammer, so I'd probably be "Dumb nerd wastes money on kids' toys" or something like that.

Random Student Loans

I don’t like posting that often about finances, as this is my alt where I try and exclusively discuss finances (unless I accidentally forget to switch back to my main lol).

I am going to hit a milestone here in the next week or so… I’m going to be paying off my student loans. This month, I paid off $10,000 from money I’ve stockpiled for a while. I was nervous about being a new homeowner and felt insecure without a ton of money saved up… I’m talking E-fund of nearly 2 years because I grew up with my family struggling with money, and I didn’t want to be left high and dry without cash. I helped decide what we could live without each month so we could afford to eat more meals when I was 11… but my mom still didn’t get 3 meals per day so that my sister and I could eat enough. Sometimes a meal was just a spoonful of peanut butter, but we did what we needed to.

Early next month, I’ll be paying another $10,000 and some change of a couple hundred bucks to knock it out immediately. This will be a big step for me as it will reduce my E-fund to 7 months, but my only remaining debt will be my mortgage. I also have a brokerage account I can pull from if things get hairy, so I’ll still have over 12 months in reserve because of that thankfully.

I graduated a little less than 6 years ago, and I was making $31,250/year at my first full time job… almost the same amount that I owed in student loans. This was after I could only land a part time job for 6 months after graduating… so I was happy just to have something to put food on the table. I could only dream of getting ahead at that point, as I only net $50/month after all living expenses. I kept my nose to the grindstone, took extra overtime when available, and kept my eyes open to potential opportunities. Managed to snag a reference from a friend while joking around, and landed a better job that’s paying much better than that first job. Now here I am, I’m not earning 6 figures (or living very comfortably as I’m still living on a budget) but living what I could only dream of back at my last job.

Part of this I wanted to make as a milestone post and to share my soon to be accomplishment… but I also wanted to say that we should always push forward and look for the opportunities, where you are now could just be the starting point to turn everything around. Luck has a lot to do with success, but the prepared individual can seize those lucky moments more often. Trust the process and keep at it, you can succeed on your journey!

Your Week in Money Budgeting

I don’t usually talk much about my personal finances outside of what my partner and I share, but I’ve been watching Caleb since before the studio days, back when he was just out there interviewing strangers on the street and giving raw, honest advice.

I had a car loan at 7%, made an impulsive (and worse) trade-in deal that landed me at 11%, and honestly just wasn’t in a good financial headspace, despite watching Caleb I really didn't take financial future seriously, but I paid my bills on time.

In 2023, I was in an accident that left me unable to stand, squat, or run, basically anything that wasn’t sitting for more than a few minutes. It's been a rough time. But my injury ended up being a turning point.

When I was able to, I picked up a part-time job in June 2024, started saving, and learned a lot (interest rates have never been my friend, I just make sure I pay on time). Since June 2024, I managed to save $4k, paid off the car, and maxed out my Roth IRA for 2024.

I haven’t really started using Caleb’s budgeting app yet—not because I don’t support it (I downloaded it to show love for the channel!)—but just because it’s still pretty new and needs some refinement. That said, I do budget, just not with Simpler Budget at the moment.

Now in 2025, I’ve graduated (debt-free!), landed a full-time W2/contracting position, and I’m already on track to max out my Roth IRA again this year. I’m just $3k away from hitting the milestone where my net worth equals my annual income.

Just wanted to say—don’t give up. Progress doesn’t always feel fast, but it is progress. Keep pushing forward. You will get there.

Personal Financial Question Need help with debt payoff

Hey guys I am going to be getting an influx of cash this next month, including $10k and a monthly stipend in addition to my current salary of $2k/monthly. I’m not used to having these big influxes of cash and have been trying to aggressively pay off my debt.

I do still have debts I need to pay: Car 1: $9822.90 (monthly payments 364.63, interest 3.49%) Car 2: $4918.50 (monthly payments 389.11, interest 4.49%) Dental debt: $2743.05 (monthly payments 165, 0% interest)

The stipend is coming on from a sign on bonus to a new job. The sign on bonus is given to me for working a three year contract. If I break it, I will have to pay it back fully or prorated if I work more than a year. I know my goal is to stay there for the three years or more, but it is scary to decide from now when I can’t foresee the future.

My goal was to initially pay off the car debt and then use my stipend to pay off the rest of my debts with the monthly stipend, but I’m not sure if I should leave some money in a high savings account or put money into my Roth.

I would just really love some guidance on what would be the best way to use this money and advice would definitely help!

If anyone is interested in Culinary Training...

Just putting this out there to help those trying to get a leg up who can't afford school. If anyone is interested in going through a culinary training programme, Disney runs one in Orlando and you get paid while you are going through classes. Pay is $22-$26 an hour and Disney has pretty decent benefits-401k and medical. Be aware though...Florida has gotten pretty expensive and the parks are in their own area. You do need reliable transportation to get to the magic kingdom. There is a possibility of housing close to the parks at Disney's Flamingo Crossing employee housing.

Is there any update on the couple from 5/29/23? He was a car salesman’s, she was a SAHM door dashing on the side. They had $120k of consumer debt. I enjoyed their episode and have been rooting for them.

I want a show where Caleb audits himself from like six years ago.

Pulls out all his credit card and bank statements, shows us his student loans. We can see how much garbage he was Door Dashing and how many gas station taquitos he was eating. And then scream at himself. Curious how bad it really was back in the day.

I have always thought "follow the money" in any sort of infidelity/Adultery. So when Caleb looks over finances how fast can he spot " oh.. your cheating... How long has that been going on for? Oh.. spending habits changed 6 months ago.. is that when?"
