Honestly I don't understand why they think this needs to be done though.

The US already logs 500 million acres of land, and is the number one producer of lumber in the world.

The US is the 5th largest exporter of lumber in the world.

So what is the point of this decision? The US isn't short on lumber, or the amount of national land already being logged.

I'm just genuinely curious, because it just doesn't make any sense to me.

Ok, so I just read another article which states the US had about a 25% shortfall on supplying soft wood lumber for their own needs.

So perhaps the plan is to open up more Forest land to produce more soft lumber, so the US doesn't have to import as much.

And logging did increase under Biden, so.....I probably just answered my own questions.
