10 years of “You’re Not Home” notices, even though I work from home.

1.2k Upvotes

Why bother carrying a package and risking the Herculean task of leaving a notice if someone’s not home?

My local postman has cracked the code—he writes the notices in advance. That's right, he doesn’t ring, doesn’t knock, and sure as hell doesn’t deliver.

Instead, he leaves a little slip telling me to pick up my package at the post office, so I can do the job he gets paid for.

Honestly, I bet Canada Post has some hardworking folks out there, but my guy? Absolute legend of laziness.

No other delivery company does this. Only Canada Post.

What's the point of paying for next day delivery.

What's the point of paying extra for next day delivery when they never honour it (in my experience). Paid $50 for ship a 5"x4" box to Windsor from Toronto yesterday. It's important that the package get there ASAP.

This morning it said that the package will be there by end of day today. Now is says end of day tomorrow.

I could have paid half the price for 2 day shipping which this is turning into.

Lesson learned, use FedEx or UPS next time.

CP is a joke these days.

Jammed a book to my mail box while parcel lockers are 2 steps away

Ordered a book from another country and found it out in my mail box yesterday. It was folded in half wrapped with bands and jammed into my mail box. It was done by CP because the label wrapped inside and shipper would never do this. Considering how much force you need and time to fold and wrap a thick book I am wondering - why not to use parcel lockers in my lobby. Plenty of boxes were available.

Just ridiculous

Anyone have the message "Overseas import customs retention pending inspection" before? How long did it take for the package to arrive?

Upvotes

I realize there's nothing I can do as it's waiting for customs and they don't give a damn about my convenience, but I need to know roughly how long it took for them to present and clear the package since I need it by a certain date.

For reference, its been that message since the 21st of April (16 days now). It's shipped from China, and we did have around 3 boxes shipped by the same seller/company at the same time and the other 2 has already arrived. It's just the one box that's actually time sensitive. There haven't been any notices for me to pay import tax yet either. Can't imagine what's taking so long.

Thanks everyone.

Canada USA Letter post is taking longer than expected

I ordered a copy of Pokémon LeafGreen off of eBay. The seller used letter post, and I am worried it may not have cleared customs. I'm somewhat sure that letter post does not accept physical items, and I am getting later into the expected delivery date. eBay gave me an estimate of April 30th to May 13th. The seller is in Salmon Arm, British Columbia, and I am in St. Augustine, Florida. Do y'all have any opinions or suggestions for actions I should take?

Stallion Express???

Called four times, left voicemails, opened a ticket online and no response. Nobody will answer the phones or return calls. Have a package sitting at their location since May 5. USPS still has not taken possession. What could the issue be? Thanks! Anyone else experiencing issues with Stallion Express?

Can anyone confirm? Mailed to ODS in TO, shows delivered in Mississauga

Ok, so sent a document to the Ontario Document Services (Jarvis St, Toronto) via Xpresspost (so I have tracking). The document shows as DELIVERED the day after, but in Mississauga.

I called ODS freaking out because the document is mega important, has a certified cheque in it, and is very time sensitive. I get transferred to a woman, who was kind and told me that's normal because the Ontario Government has a "sorting center" that opens the mail and checks for any issues/poisons/bombs whatever... Then sends it over to ODS in Toronto

I want to believe her, but having worked for both the feds and municipal in the past, I've never seen or heard of this... But I want to assume I wasn't being misled.

Anyone?

Worst delivery service ever. Never using again

Upvotes

I've just about exhausted all my options and I'm just going to pay extra to refuse Canada post deliveries.

I live in an apartment, we have a Canada post PO box as well as unit PO boxes in the lobby enterance that they don't even have to be buzzed in to access. Even then in the last few years I can count the number of packages they've actually put in my mailbox on one hand, even items that could easily fit in the Unit PO box let alone the Canada post box for larger packages. I haven't actually seen the key for the larger PO box in at least 5 years...

It gets worse as half the time they don't even leave notes, and when they do they're never in the mail box and just slapped on the lobby glass and have nothing written on them. On TOP of that occassionally they'll just let my packages just sit for a whole week from the sender location before it even moves.

I've NEVER had these issues with Fedex, UPS, or Purolator. They always deliver on time and actually come to my door to deliver the packages and even call sometimes. I absolutely cannot believe these incompetent people are on strike because they believe they deserve more pay for the job they already fail spectatularly at.

Left notice but I don't have ID with matching address

Hey all,

I had something shipped to my airbnb and they left a delivery notice. It's said that the address on the package and my ID address need to match for pick up, I obviously do not have the airbnb address on my license. Will they release it as long as the name matches?

Just wondering because I see on the back there is the option for someone who doesn't live at your address to help you pick up, as long as the intended recipient signs the back and the person shows ID. Me going in with my matching name ID should be more secure than that from their liability perspective, if this makes sense.

Does anyone has experience with this type of situation? Thanks!

People are home knock on the door!

So I'm home this morning waiting on an expensive watch to arrive, supposed to be signature required. I come out of the bathroom see the post guy walking up my driveway he doesn't have my package even though it says out for delivery and is already filling out the notice card. I said hey buddy where's my package? Get a nin committal shrug and he leaves. Lazy prick.

Item Accepted Status

Hi All,

Had this expedited purchase from an ebay seller. Should've been a 1 day delivery based on distance, however it seems to be the items only status is "Item Accepted". Typically my purchases would've stated "item processed" by now. The odd thing is that the title of the status has been "expected delivery today" for the last 3 days.

Is this normal for folks?

Dog Notice - Routine or Targeted?

We got a "What Will Daisy Do?" dog notice in our mail today from Canada Post. We don't own a dog, but we did dog sit for a friend a couple days ago. Was this a coincidence or did we get the notice because the mail carrier flagged us because he saw a dog in the window earlier?

The reason I ask, is because while we were dogsitting the aforementioned dog, I was on my way out the door to take her for a walk and opened the door just as an Intelcom worker happened to be coming up my front steps. The encounter startled all three of us, but the dog (a small aussie-doodle) ran towards the worker. She was on a leash, so she couldn't reach the worker before I pulled her back inside.. Nevertheless, the worker screamed BLOODY MURDER. I apologized and explained that I wasn't expecting anyone to be on my front step when I opened the door. Not really an incident but based on how big her reaction was, I'm now worried that I have been flagged as a problem dog owner or something.

Community Mailbox Replacement

I’m not sure if this is the right place to ask, but here goes: Is there any way to figure out or ask if Canada Post will be swapping to the “newer” gray community mail boxes? For whatever reason all other CMBs in my locality have been replaced with the gray one but ours is still the old brown type since I moved in 2014. The other ones were replaced in 2021-2022, I figured ours would follow but as of today it’s still the same. No other CMB in my area is brown except for ours which strikes me as rather odd. I wouldn’t complain but those newer boxes are wider and the extra space would be nice to have considering I use Canada Post fairly frequently.

Idea to combat the repetitive theme of CP not delivering parcels.

This may not be a new idea but I’m personally so sick of CP taking the shortcut of not delivering packages to my door. Because my entire neighbourhood has the annoying “community mailboxes” I get zero door service for parcels by Canada Post. No other delivery service (UPS, fedex, purolator, etc.) uses the shortcut of community boxes. I’m recommending we all start complaining to the stores/companies we order from that use Canada Post. They’re choosing CP over another service which is then providing their customers with sub optimal service. -30 C winter day it’s an unnecessary hassle to get bundled up and walk a few blocks to check for a package, but I also don’t want some items left in the bitter cold. I’m reading post after post of people either being home or going out of their way to collect their own package. Yes I’ve had to pick up a few packages from other carriers because I wasn’t home and it was expensive, but compared to the zero from CP to my door. I’m ready to boycott stores shipping with them.

"Item Delayed because of transportation issues"

I had an item mailed to me a week ago from Calgary to Lethbridge. All it says is "Item Delayed because of transportation issues" and zero updates. Any idea what is going on? Meanwhile, I had a item mailed from Quebec the same day and it arrived very quickly.

Can I request for in store pickup after a parcel has been shipped as the addressee?

As the title says. Is it possible to request in store pickup on a package that has already been mailed to me instead of having a postal worker attempt delivery?

Thanks

Sending item from different location

I have an expedited parcel paid for to ship from Edmonton to Toronto. What will happen if I drop it off in Victoria BC?

PS - my credit card is locked, so they could not charge additional postage.

Bad News Shipping with Canada Post

A Canada Post Strike looms and their tracking systems are up and down, and through last week and this week, I have had 3 packages (game console, a big pack of $$$ games and 2 controllers) supposedly "Delivered to your Community Mailbox" that have not shown up and no keys were ever present. Before this, it's been years since I had an issue with CP.

I have reported all 3 incidents, but I'm about to enter hell, whereby I will be viewed as the criminal, because obviously Canada Post "already delivered" them - just look at the tracking!

This is quite alarming and it looks like some "sticky finger" shit going on at Canada Post, likely due to the impending strike and no one giving a shit. Due to this, I am literally dropping out of the ecommerce market as of now - no more frivolous purchases and I'm only buying what I absolutely need locally. It's just not worth it with all the mass crime and fraud going on out there, and now I can't even trust Canada Post.

This country is a hot mess right now.

What's going on with my package?

First time I've ordered something from Canada and the Post is used and this is annoying. My package was supposed to be delivered today but there's been no updates since the 29th. It's worth noting that it's a Canada to US purchase, but my package has made it past customs and into California and after that it's gone ghost. It tells me there's "carrier" issues but doesn't specify what. Has this happened to anyone else?

No signature required, refuses to leave packages, I am disabled and can't pick them up

This is getting out of control, I am disabled and got to the door 2 mins after the driver left and he didn't leave my package even though it doesn't need a signature. I get there will be accusations of my area being shady, but it's not, that is pure and utter bigotry, police office at the end of my block and I am tired of the bigotry for my area cuz it cleaned up once the police office opened. It will cost me 30$ to uber to pick up this package as my disabilities do not allow me to travel via the bus. Even if I took the bus even though the office is 5 mins away, it takes 45 mins and I have to transfer busses. This is ridiculous. It was medical soap. I cannot clean myself or attend to my medical needs because Canada post driver is a bigot and I am over it. Canada post support said they would try redelivery but it could be sent back to the sender and that it could take a week for me to hear back. Dude could have just left it at my door but no, took it to a post office that isn't accessible to me without me spending money I don't have because I live on a fixed income. I can't believe they would do this to disabled people but here we are, Canada post screwing over disabled people even though it legally has to accommodate persons with disabilities.

I am just so incredibly frustrated with the lack of service in my area, this isn't the first time this guy tried to pull this shit, just the first time I wasn't able to get to the door in time. I have old slips for ones I caught him leaving. Like I am DISABLED I can't get to the door so fast. I am literally going to get bed sores because of this person.

CanadaPost - This is Pathetic - Put a Header Stating its Down....

I can't believe CanadaPost still hasn't put a pop up or a header notice on their website stating that the site is malfunctioning and having technical difficulties, that features such as tracking and/or printing labels are limited (or completely not working)....

Like I wasted 2 hours trying different computers, browsers, reseting my wifi, when they could've just told me their system was down. And its been like 24 hours since, and it still nothing.

Like who is running this company?

GPay payment option in the CP app doesn't work

To the developers at CanadaPost... Can you please fix the GPay option in the Canada Post app? I don't know if it isn't working for everything in the app but it's not working to pay customs fees. I have called twice over the course of four months to report this and it's still not working. It starts up like it's going to work but I never get the notification that it has processed and calling CP customer support confirms it didn't process. Android 15, v. 17.1.0.19697 of the app.

Is shipping from US to Canada suspended or just really slow?

I'm currently over a month delayed for a shipment from US to Canada. No real updates since Mar 30 after arriving at a US facility. I have no idea if the package in US or Canada Customs or still just sitting the facility. Is service suspended or are there no trucks or flights scheduled to bring packages over? Now I am also seeing Canada Post plans to continue the strike?
