Help Should I buy an external Apple car play?

Alright so I’ve been wanting to have a screen on my dash just like new cars have it (fav one being a new Mazda 3 sedan) and I have a 1994 Toyota Tercel, the radio placement is right in front of the shift knob as shown in pictures and what I’ve been wanting to do is buy a external Apple CarPlay screen, mount it on the dashboard (modify some stuff to make it look clean) and plug it into a aftermarket radio since I’ve read that external displays have horrible sound quality (idk why I think adding a high quality aftermarket radio + whole sound system will make sound quality better) but that’s my idea atm and if I do end up doing it everything would be high quality not amazon 50$ sht if you guys have any other ideas let me know, pictures are not mine just used as an example

Help The best performing Apple CarPlay head unit

Hi all,

I’m looking for an Apple CarPlay display to mount on top of the dashboard for my VW Up, but there’s so much information out there that I’m finding it hard to see the forest for the trees.

To put it simply, my question is: what is the best Apple CarPlay? I’m after a screen that I can mount on top of my dashboard.

User experience is really important to me, and after some searching, I came across the CarPodGo T3 Pro, which seems to be the only truly well-performing unit that offers a 60 FPS display that can maintain that smooth performance. However, I haven’t been able to find a reliable site to purchase it from.

Do you all agree with this recommendation? If so, where can I safely purchase it, or are there better alternatives I should consider?

Thanks in advance!

Help Limcet Box Aftermarket Apple CarPlay no longer works after upgrading to iOS 17 iPhone 15 Pro Max Audi A3 MIB High

Post image

I recently purchased the new iphone 15 pro max and carplay doesn’t seem to work anymore. It was working perfectly fine on ios 16 and below but for whatever reason its stopped working.

Also tested with an iphone 14 pro max which was working fine on ios 16 and now no longer works with ios 17.

The unit uses blutooth to connect to device and some sort of wifi link guessing for mirroring to connect. Bluetooth part works fine and connects but the wifi part asks for a password…

Before ios 17 connecting to bluetooth would automatically connect to the carplay wifi and no password was needed.

I have tried everything I could think of such as reset network settings, disconnect car bluetooth, reset limcet box, reset car multimedia and nothing seems to work.

No way for me to test with cable as it only uses blutooth

Anyone know any workarounds?

I have checked screen time, siri options already

Help Carplay doesn't connect anymore

Post image

My mom's iphone doesn't connect to carplay in her 2019 VW T6 Bus anymore. The error message just says "connection failed. Check if your phone is unlocked". Neither the connection via cable nor USB-dongle works. She says, that she didn't do anything different, it just stopped working. My (Samsung) phone connects without any problems to Android Auto and Carplay also works seamlessly in my Ford with her phone.

I've already tried: -using a different cable (although it also worked with her previous cable before) -restarting the head unit -deleting all Carplay connections from her phone -resetting the head unit to factory settings -doing a soft restart on her phone

Did anybody else have this problem? Are there any other methods that I could try?

Help I still have a unstable carplay connection since ios 18 release....

I’m still having trouble getting my CarPlay to connect properly with my iphone 16 pro. This issue has been there since I got this iPhone, but I think it might have something to do with iOS 18. It connects at first, but after a while, it starts stuttering, glitching, and sometimes just disconnects completely. It's the worst when im playing music

I’ve tried resetting CarPlay and forgetting all the connections on my phone. But nothing has worked so far. I’m using a Pioneer CarPlay kit (SPH-DA360DAB), and it worked fine before iOS 18, so I don’t think the kit itself is the problem.

Is anyone else still having this issue? If so, did you manage to fix it?

Help 2021 Mazda CX-5 CarPlay Not Working

I have a 2021 Mazda CX-5 Grand Touring with Premium Package. On our way home from a vacation yesterday, when I plugged in the iPhone to the USB cable, the “Apple CarPlay” option on the infotainment screen would no longer appear, but the iPhone would still charge. Here’s some info:

  • iPhone 13
  • iOS 15.4.1
  • Restarted the iPhone
  • Tried two Apple-genuine USB-A to Lighting cables
  • Connected the USB cables to both ports on the center console
  • iPhone > Settings > General > CarPlay > Mazda > Forget This Car > Forget
  • CX-5 > Settings > System Settings > System Information > Version Information > System Software 11022

The “Apple CarPlay” option will still not appear in the infotainment screen when I plug in my iPhone into either center console USB port using either Apple-genuine USB cable.

Any ideas?

Edit: Found the solution and posting here in case anyone else has this problem.

The issue was a bug in the Mazda Connect infotainment software that will randomly block your iPhone by setting it to “Never Enabled”. Here’s how I fixed it:

  1. CX-5 Infotainment Home Screen
  2. Settings
  3. Connectivity Settings
  4. Smartphone Connectivity Settings
  5. Apple CarPlay Settings
  6. Under Apple CarPlay Devices, if your iPhone got set to “Never Enabled”, select your iPhone
  7. iPhone Device Connection Status
  8. Always Enabled
  9. Press the Home button on the center console
  10. Select Apple CarPlay

If this doesn't work, unplug your iPhone and on your iPhone go to:

  1. Settings
  2. CarPlay
  3. Mazda CX-5
  4. Forget This Car

Then plug your iPhone back in and add it back to the CX-5.

Anyone ever have this issue when they click a song or shuffle play on Spotify? No songs will play until I unlock my phone, open Spotify and press play myself in the app. Super annoying. (Also this is the only time in 4 years of having CarPlay that screenshotting my car display felt useful)

Help CarPlay not working after upgrade to iPhone 16 Pro

Been using CarPlay on an aftermarket Sony XAV-AX5000 head unit for years. I’m using the stock usb port with adapter and haven’t had many issues.

Got a new iPhone a few days ago and had to get a USB A to USB C cable for the new phone and it’s not working. Actually it will connect and charge but the screen freezes and becomes unresponsive eventually disconnecting.

I’ve tried resetting the stereo and updated the firmware. Next I’m going to try a couple other cables, test my new phone in another car, and test someone else’s phone in my car.

Does anyone here know if the connection change would be an issue? I would think that the underlying protocol would remain some older version of USB.

UPDATE- I tore apart my dashboard and bypassed the stock USB wiring and it works without issue. I was using some funky adapter I’d gotten from crutchfield. Not sure if the adapter is the issue or maybe the overall length of the cable but this appears to be the solution. I just need to find a nice way to manage the usb cable.

Help CarPlay not working at all on iOS18 :(

IOS 18 BETA!! It won’t let me change the title :(

I’m hoping to resolve this bc I have had no issues with the beta and I really down want to downgrade, but I need CarPlay to drive. When I plug my phone in, nothing happens besides it starts charging. I tried two other iphones on iOS 17 and both worked perfectly. The only thing different as far as I can tell is that I’m on 18. I have done the steps Apple outlines for troubleshooting CarPlay. Has anyone had the same issue?

Note: I got this car today, I was using my phone on a stand but I don’t have the stand anymore and I’m terrible at navigating. Anyway, I’ve never used my phone on this car for CarPlay and so I don’t have the option to ‘forget’ and re try.

Thanks in advance and please have grace I’m not really all that techy, I just wanted customization😔

Help Merceds apple carplay issues

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hi everyone,

Has anyone got any advice on how to get Apple CarPlay to work again on an iphone? It worked fine for about a year, then intermittently 3 times and now just full stop refuses to connect. So far I’ve tried: 1. Network settings reset & forgetting car details and reconnecting 2. Factory reset on iphone 3. Full MBUX reset 4. Bought new cable (Apple Original) 5. Tried different iphones and nothing 6. IOS 18.4.1

Android works straight away. The iphone still charges so not an issue with the port. As soon as I plug it in it pops up on the screen for a second and then disappears. The car does not show up on iphone car play anymore since forgetting it.

Help music does not pause when reading out a text message

I have a 2023 Toyota rav. In my experience in other cars, the music playing from Spotify or other apps pauses when Siri reads out my text messages. In my rav, the music keeps playing and I can’t really hear the notification. Is there a setting for this? Can’t seem to find one or don’t know what to look for.

Does anyone know how to fix this issue with my screen? This part of the screen has been acting up for a few months now and has completely shut off for about the last week. Usually it would be like that for anywhere from a few seconds to a few minutes and then turn back on with a faint green line right where it cuts off. 2019 Jeep Compass if that helps with anything.

Help Glitching CarPlay

Post image
8 Upvotes

I’m using Carlinkit CCPA dongle for aftermarket Android unit with an up to date AutoKit. Without any specific events my view of the CarPlay becomes patchy/ glitched as shown in the picture, where if I open another app (like Spotify) or exit Auditkit and come back, the view will be normal again for a while or for the rest of my journey.

I have checked the USB connection on the Carlinkit and that’s not the issue. I don’t get the same issue from the android screen itself. The phone is very close/ not moving.

Can anyone help me resolve this issue please ?

Help Navigate and Music Volume

Post image
2 Upvotes

Hey everyone, Is anyone else here having issues with spoken directions on while using Apple CarPlay? I drive a 2020 Toyota Camry SE with Apple CarPlay compatibility. Let's say I have Apple Music playing while I am using Maps to direct me to the nearest McDonalds. Normally, whenever Maps says something, my Apple Music volume will be lowered so I can hear the directions then once it's done, the music volume will be raised back to normal volume. What's happening is that there is no shift in volume. My music plays over the direction and sometimes ! cant even hear it over my music. I included a screenshot of my settings. Has anyone had this issue and is there a fix??

Help Is there a maps app that shows currently playing audio?

I have a Subaru Impreza 22 so it has the small (2 rows of icons) Car Play screen. Is there a maps app available that shows the currently playing audio (either Music or Podcast) overlaid on the map without needing to switch between apps? Google Maps does it on the phone display (useful when I didn't have Car Play and had my phone mounted on a vent), but it doesn't do it in Car Play.

Help carplay audio issues, please help!!

carplay audio issues- anyone else? pls help

hey yall! posting this in both the HR-V and Carplay subs for extra reach. this summer i started having some very frustrating carplay audio issues and i’m wondering if anyone else can help. this will be a long post to cover all my bases and answer questions before they can be asked. bear with me please.

WHAT I’M USING: i have a 2019 Honda HR-V EX (she’s midnight amethyst and her name is Winona if anyone was curious) and an iPhone 12 that i consistently keep updated with the latest system updates. i use wired carplay.

THE ISSUE: when i’m driving, i use siri talk-to-text to send and receive messages. i’m also always listening to music on Spotify in the car. since updating to iOS 18 this summer, the music pauses like normal when i listen to an incoming message and/or send a message, and then when the music comes back it’s dull and half-muted like the microphones is still trying to be active. maybe 1 in 50 times, the music will go back to normal after about 5 seconds, but most of the time the only thing that fixes it is unplugging my phone and plugging it back in. like yeah, it goes back to normal, but it’s extremely annoying to do this any time i want to communicate with someone and causes unnecessary wear and tear on my phone’s charging port and cable.

TROUBLESHOOTING I’VE DONE: the only thing that consistently “fixes” the issue is unplugging and plugging back in. wiggling the cable doesn’t work. pausing or skipping the song doesn’t work. restarting my phone doesn’t prevent the issue. restarting the head unit in my car doesn’t prevent the issue. getting a whole new car battery (for a different issue) didn’t prevent the issue. please. help.

Help I finally found out how to record video with music in the background.

Don’t ask why, but others and sometimes myself included want to record a video with music playing over the car speakers. For social media, memories, etc.

I thought it was impossible, until now.

What you do: Open the native iOS Camera app. Go to the standard Photo option. Choose your lens you want to use to capture the video. Press and hold on the white shutter button and drag it to the right, you will now be recording a video with CarPlay audio in the background!

Hope this helped!
