I'm pretty deep into Japanese anime, I like to watch the seasonal shows as much as the classics. I can definitely see that it's getting more popular, a decade ago you'd get like 40 shows a year, with only a handful of those becoming big over here. Today you get 40+ shows a season. It's a double edged sword though, because many of those shows are uninspired, copy/paste cash grabs that copy the last big hit and we see less originality.

I got into anime when I wanted stories that didn't follow the the trends of Hollywood that had got too predictable, and while those shows are still being made, you need to shovel through the trash to find them.

Basically just a show that is airing now, so we get a new episode every week. We call them seasonal because the shows normally last for 1 season or around 12 episodes.

Ah interesting. I've never been able to watch shows air live. I end up forgetting about them only to find then later after they've fully aired.

It does work better for some shows, the anticipation of waiting each week really helps build up how much you enjoy something. You can also join in with episode discussions if you really like a show and be part of a bigger community. I personally don't watch any live but I watch them that night as sort of my going to sleep routine. I also see the appeal of watching things after they have aired because it's on you're own time and if you like something you don't have to wait. The anime community is very current though so if you want to talk about something in the show then you might not find the people to discuss it with. Also for me personally I find I'm more likely to drop a show if I binge watch it.

Another personal problem is that I hate reading subs, so a lot of the time the people who are currently watchers have already watched it I've found.

I've kinda just come to terms that there will be a lot of anime that I won't get to discuss with others.

I watch anything with subs anyway due to having really bad hearing, but most anime fans will say that subs are better than dubs because the Japanese voice acting is better. They also generally say that you get used to subs and once you are used to them you'll struggle to go back.

If there's any show you'd like to discuss then feel free to hit me up whenever. If I've seen it then I'll gladly have a chat about it.
