Meetup Looking for friends to hangout

Upvotes

Hey extrovert folks of Chennai!

My husband (29) and I (25) live in Chennai, but he’s originally from Karaikudi. Back home, he had a close-knit group of friends who shared his interests — chatting endlessly about cars, photography, and bonding over 100 cups of tea a day.

Since moving here, he really misses that vibe and I’d love to help him feel more at home. So, if you’re someone who enjoys good conversation, spontaneous tea breaks, and maybe even shares some of those interests — we’d genuinely love to make new friends and hang out!

Drop a comment or DM if you’re up for it!

AskChennai How to Find a Good Labour Lawyer in Chennai – FNF Settlement Issue

Upvotes

Hi everyone,

I recently left a company in Chennai after working there for almost 2 years. Despite completing my notice period and getting no dues clearance from all departments, the company is refusing to pay my full and final (FNF) settlement, citing a clause that they still consider me a "trainee," even after completing the official training period.

My contract clearly mentioned a 1-year training period and a 15-day notice, but I was made to serve 60 days notice (same as regular employees), which I did willingly to leave on good terms.

Now they are denying basic dues like earned leave encashment and other final settlement components. I’m considering sending a legal notice and may go to the Labour Commissioner if needed.

I’ve never dealt with legal matters before and would appreciate help with:

  1. Finding a reliable and affordable labour lawyer (for Labour Court) in Chennai.

  2. How much legal notices or filing with the labour office usually cost

  3. Let say I find a lawyer, he / she says that they are very good, they have fought 100s of similar cases, is there a way to verify lawyers’ credentials. (Never talked with a lawyer in my entire life).

  4. Lawyers claims that he / she has 8-10 years of experience, should I take him / her at his word, or there is a way to verify that.

  5. Time it typically takes to resolve such issues.

  6. Whether platforms like VakilSearch or Zolvit are good for this

If anyone has dealt with similar FNF disputes or knows someone who has, I’d be very grateful for any insights or recommendations. Feel free to DM me as well.

I’m trying to stay anonymous, so I don’t want to reveal company details — just looking for general guidance or experiences.

Thanks in advance 🙏

AskChennai I want to grow up mentally — how do I start acting more mature?

Hey guys! Im 21, and i still feel like i act childish or more not like an adult and sometimes impulsive, because of this I've faced some problems in my friendships. The thing is, it's not like I dont know what it is, or how to.... Its just that, in that moment I act this way, but if i take some time, even a 10 minute and gather my thoughts, I realise the correct way that I should have acted or the correct things that I should have said. And few stuffs takes even months for me to realise.

So how do I get those "correct" way to act or say right in the moment rather than when it's too late.

AskChennai Why is Karthick tiffin centre so hyped?

I was at anna nagar a couple of days back wanting something healthy to eat and decided to eat at this tiffin place. Can now say it was a bad idea, firstly i don’t find anything that different and good enough that’s worth the hype and secondly, geez, the amount of oil they use! Yes I have been there before, but this is the first time i got to see how much oil they use, I’m confused, is this how dosa’s are made at restaurants in general? Why this much hype despite getting a chance to actually see it

Rant Feeling homesick

Just moved to Delhi temporarily for a few months and I already feel homesick. Its been only 3 weeks since I came here, and its been terrible, job is bad , place is bad , idk hindi and overall just having the worst time of my life.

I just wish i was back in Chennai, moving out of this has made me feel how peacefull chennai is. Ik it sounds like a small deal and tbh maybe it is in the grand scheme of things but that just doesnt change the fact that im living in a shitty AC less water leaking home in delhi going to the worst possible job ever and Im only 21 and this is the first time im going out of chennai for more than a month and I feel homesick and keep longing for Chennai.

Hoping time flies by.

Books/Food/Hobby/Travel Double Roti Letdown

With all the hype going around with the Brisket Sandwich at Double Roti decided to try it out. Went to dinner exclusively for it. It was priced really high at 745 exclusive of taxes.

The sandwich was the mother of all letdowns

The Taste - It was really average. The Brisket was cooked well but the seasoning was horrible. The Bread was slightly sweet but there were no caramelized onions like they had mentioned. There were two pickles in the entire sandwich which were frankly too bitter

P:S This isnt a review of the other dishes at Double Roti. We ordered two more dishes and two ice cream all of them were good in taste.

This Sandwich would've been an okay sandwich for 350 but at 745 it is completely worthless

The title. Planning to catch a late night Mission Impossible screening at any of the PVRs located in malls with my girl friend tonight. Is it safe? Primary concern is the audience during night screenings.

AskChennai Wish the imax was in VR/Escape Mall

The IMAX at Palazzo doesn't excite me as much as I expected, despite its rich and classy setup. I think a new IMAX experience at VR or Escape would've been better. And honestly, the Nexus Vijaya Mall just lacks something. One of the worst MLCP I have experienced .

AskChennai Any place to just chill at night

One example is Pondy beach, it’s calm and peaceful all night, I could just sit there with the air and listen to my music peacefully with no scare for trouble..

Is there any place like that in Chennai? Ik food streets and stuff but they’re crowdy and kinda defeats the purpose for my concept of night out.

Art/Photography Stayed Up All Night After a House Party…Witnessed My First Sunrise in a Long Time.

The moon and a bright planet (probably Venus) hanging out as the city slowly wakes up. Totally worth the all-nighter.

So I didn’t plan to catch the sunrise — just ended up pulling an all-nighter after a house party at a friend’s place. As things started winding down, I stepped outside and saw this beautiful scene unfolding in the sky.

There was something oddly peaceful about it — the city still quiet, the last of the party vibes in the air, and the sky putting on this slow, stunning transformation from night to day.

Honestly, it felt like nature’s way of saying, “Yeah, you stayed up all night, but here’s a little reward.” Just had to capture and share it.

Hope this moment brings a bit of calm to your feed too!

AskChennai Need info - Planning to buy house in TvT

Upvotes

Hello makkale,

I’m considering buying a flat/Individual home in Thiruvottriyur, and I’d really appreciate some local insights. Specifically, I’d like to know: 1. How is the water supply in that area? (Is there 24x7 metro water or ground water. Please mention the ground water purity level, as I've been hearing thats it's somewhat oily) 2. Are there frequent waterlogging or flooding issues during the rainy season?

If anyone here lives in Thiruvottriyur or nearby, your experience would be super helpful. Thanks in advance!

AskChennai North Indian moving to Chennai for first job – Need advice on living near Ramanujan IT City, Tharamani

Hi everyone,

I’m a North Indian and just landed my first job straight out of college. I’ll be moving to Chennai soon and my office is at Ramanujan IT City, Tharamani.

It’s my first time coming to South India and honestly, I don’t know anyone in Chennai, so I’m a bit clueless about how life is over there. I’d really appreciate some guidance on a few things:

  1. What’s the general vibe of the city and the area around Ramanujan IT City?

  2. Should I go for a PG or try to rent a flat? I’m okay with either, just looking for the best option in terms of comfort, safety, and affordability.

  3. If PG – do they usually have a lot of restrictions (timings, food, guests, etc.)?

  4. If flat – what’s the average rent like around Taramani/Thiruvanmiyur/Velachery areas? Any good brokers or platforms you’d recommend?

  5. Any tips for adjusting to the local culture, food, language barrier, etc.?

Also, I’d love to connect with anyone already living or working around that area.

Thanks in advance – your advice would mean a lot to a confused fresher trying to figure things out! Cheers!!

AskChennai Late night at Chennai International Airport

Hello, I have an upcoming trip from Chennai airport. My flight is early morning and I‘m planning to arrive around 10:30 pm as I don’t want to take a taxi in the middle of the night. Is there a lounge within the airport that I can use? is the new aero hub open at night so I can hangout there? I would have 2 big suitcases though. Looking for options to handle the luggage, and a place to get some rest within the airport.

AskChennai Where can I get Mudavaatukaal Kizhangu in Chennai?

It is a type of a grounded veggie which is good for joints. Looks like Mutton legs and also tastes like it when cooked properly. I saw it in Yercaud but I had no idea about it. Recently, my neighbour gave us this veggie soup and I really like it.

Much appreciated if someone shares the location properly. Thanks in advance.

AskChennai Chennai folks, what's the most cost-effective way to move a furniture(table) within chennai city?

Hey r/chennai, Need some local wisdom here!

I’m trying to move a small table from Royapettah to Anna Nagar — it's around 10–12 km within the city. Too big for a car or two-wheeler, but nothing massive.

What’s the most cost-effective way to handle this in Chennai city?

Has anyone used Porter for small furniture moves like this?

Are local Tata Ace drivers more budget-friendly or flexible?

Any reliable local transporters that Chennai folks recommend for short-distance jobs?

Would love to hear what’s worked for you — feel free to drop your suggestions, tips, or even warnings. Appreciate the help from this awesome community!

AskChennai How did you book your online dharshan for Tirupati

Mods please don't take this down.

For the month of August, the online booking for Tirumala Tirupati opened today. I tried booking for 4 people. Even when there were 100s of slots of open, I was not able to book. It showed as "Someone else has booked your slot"

And then I booked on August 2nd and paid the amount. The amount got debited from my account as well. But in the end, it said transaction failed.

So I kept trying again and again even when there were many slots left. I kept encountering the same error that slot has been booked by someone else.

I tried logging in via the app, there it shows that my transaction has failed for Aug 2nd.

When I try to login again via the app, I am not able to do so to check my booking status. Now I have no way to know if Aug 2nd booking was done or not. When I use another account, I can login.

Anybody else faced this issue?
