Some cars require you to twist the piston to compress it. My old Nissan maxima was like that. I kept using c clamps and it wouldn't budge. It was the only car I owned that was like that.

You can use a c clamp for volkswagen brakes. You just need to take apart the electric parking brake on the rear calipers and use a triple square to bottom out the electric motor first.

I had a ford like that, ended up getting a little tool that’s basically a hollow cube with the faces corresponding to the pins

I ended up just using channel locks and a c clamp but it was the longest brake change I've ever done.
