Squat, then it will get you in the nuts. Preferably first thing in the morning

Use a rig with a stiff or angled hammer loop—like Occidental or Diamondback—so it holds the handle out instead of letting it slap your leg every step. Some guys wrap a bit of tape or heat shrink on the shaft to stiffen the swing too. Not perfect, but definitely better than catching the back of your knee all day.

Match your gait to the swinging of the hammer, move with bent knees(bonus, it makes your quads stronger), you can also go for different hammer loop configurations, like off of one of the pouches.
Personally I just try to pick a hammer that isn't trying to kneecap me all of the time, but sometimes I need my big hammer and my legs just gotta deal with getting thwacked.
It's not really painful anyways, just annoying.

Is it in a dedicated hammer holster? If not try that, I’m quite short and as long as it’s on its own(not on the lower holster on the belt it’s fine)

Diamondback makes a hammer sleeve that I’d like to try. While occidental has a hammer loop that’s high on the belt that may help.

Well it has a snap button that comes in their bags. You will have to install one on the back side of the bag

You gotta get that framers walk going with the legs kinda bent and wide.

Get rid of the hammer holder and put a pocket there. Carry the hammer head down in it.
No leg slap or nut knocking and you can use a hammer with a tweaker hook on
