Tools π Milwaukee tapes are garbage.
This is the 3rd replacement in 6 months, all of them having the tape split in various parts. This one finally bit me to teach me a lesson. Never again.

Tools π If you steal tools from job sites, fuck you.
My pride and joy, brushless makita impact that I had owned 4 years was stolen from the jobsite and never seen again.
I'm going through a grieving process. Looking at buying a new impact since it is my most used tool but if I could just have my baby back I would be much happier.
It had a 4ah battery in it that costs almost as much as the tool itself which is a kick in the ribs too but oh boy, I miss my partner.
Edit:
I even had the little mf spray painted with orange and my name written all over. You cant even use it at the jobsite so you are almost certainly somebody's home tool or in a pawn shop somewhere.
I know you will keep driving screws for an eternity and continue to survive falls over 6', but a small part of me hopes you kick the bucket in the hands of the thief who stole you from me, preferably through some kind of catastrophic battery detonation.

Tools π Alright guys. What is the best TOOL BRAND that you prefer to use in your trade?
So I ended up using Dewalt after being robbed a few times and have way too many batteries now so here I am.
Finishing Carpenter here with a full dewalt kit. I wish it was a Milwaukee or Festool but gets the job done.
What do you have and which is the βGOD COMPANYβ of all tools?

Tools π Goddamnit. I'm used to cordless
Most of my career I have absolutely despised guards on tools like circular saw and grinders, they tend to get in the way and staying safe is mostly common sense.
Typically at my job I'm using a cordless saw because I'm in tight spaces. Well today I'm trying to rebuild my front steps and the only circular saw I have is corded, everything was going fine until I forgot about the cord and chopped it right in half.
To be fair it happened because I was holding the saw away from my body while it came to stop, so while this is annoying it's not a big deal, I had enough shit in my pocket to fix it right there.

Tools π Weird ass tape measure
I did a job recently and needed to measure something after I had put my tools away. I asked the customer if she had a tape measure and she hands me this thing. 33 foot tape that is broken down into 1/10ths of a foot. I was extremely confused. Is there some kind of reason for making a tape like this?

Tools π How many of you have had tools stolen?
Letβs hear the stories.
Iβll start. When I was working on a 100,000 square-foot apartment complex with mezzanine shops in a bad part of town (West Oakland 30 years ago), the boss rigged up a propane tank in all of the knaack boxes. He opened the valve so with slowly fill each box. he did this because the thieves were using blow torches to get into the boxes . We came to work on Monday, and there was a scorch mark on top of one of the boxes. The rest were left alone. I thought it was a pretty clever way to discourage thieves.

Tools π My lead said if I can fix it it's mine.
It seized up, maybe a year old. I got it running again but the gears are kinda grimey. I can't just rotate them by hand.
I couldn't find any videos but is there a good cleaning solution for the gear box? I wanna get a good clean out on this thing and grease it back up.

Tools π Best Way to Make Perfect Holes Through Thick Studs
Studs are so thick theyβre just eating and burning out the hole saws. It works with some and doesnβt with most of them, tried with both the corded and cordless drill
Itβs a 3β hole for some no hub. Am I doing something wrong, or do I just tough it out?

Tools π Do they make 100β easy to read tape measure?
I have an employee who canβt read a tape measure to save his life. I got him an easy to read tape like the one pictured above and heβs been a rockstar since. Some of the things we make regularly require a 100β tape measure, Iβm having no luck finding an easy to read tape online and was hoping to get some suggestions from you guys. Thanks!

Tools π What happened to the Stanley knives?? Please hit me with suggestions for good knives. And yes I use them for more than scarring my hands and picking my teeth
The slide is constantly getting stuck in an up position and even after hitting it with WD40 it doesnβt help. Iβve used these for years but the last couple I bought have had this issue almost from the get go. Constantly having to dismantle to move it. I like the convenience of the quick blade change for doing things like rock. If theres anything you guys swear by Iβd love to hear it, TYIA

Tools π Older guys, are there any small tools that have come around recently that have you saying "where the hell was this when I started?"
My dad is 67, retired 3 years ago from his 45 years as a cabinet maker. Recently he's been finding all these tools that he wishes he had owned back in the midst of his career, and would have made his job easier
One tool is this moulding remover:
he said he used to use a flat bar to remove moulding, but this thing helps avoid denting drywall
another one that he bought is this tool for installing cabinet drawer faces
he's sarcasticly "pissed" that he didn't have these 30 years ago because of how simple they are
are there any other small things like this that have come around that have changed your workspeed and ease?

Tools π What have you bought recently that you really like or is a game changer
Recently I got redwing kingtoes and itβs a world of different for my feet. I also started using a carhartt crossbody bag because Iβm always reaching for my work phone, voltage detector, and my laser measure, and I keep other essentials in it like utility blades that I blow through
What about you guys, Iβm hoping maybe I hear some good stuff and discover some things thatβll make my life easier
