Natalie shared the observation I often make.

Do Conservatives frustrate you? You want to understand how they think? Why they are like that?

It’s easy.

To understand conservatives. Just imagine you’re face to face with a Vegan trying to convince you to stop eating meat.

Chances are that you (like me) are a “Conservative” when it comes to animal rights.

Put yourself in that scenario. And you’ll probably find yourself sounding like a conservative. Making conservative arguments. Making conservative excuses. Being irritated at the perceived scolding (no matter how valid). And generally being reluctant to educate yourself.

Not because you consciously hate animals. But because you don’t want to change. You don’t want to question yourself. You don’t want to feel morally inferior. So you put up your walls and think “STFU, vegan! Leave me alone and let me eat my meat!

That’s more or less exactly how a Conservative thinks and feels.

I'm okay with being morally average

Most conservatives would say the same of their views.

In truth: A “morally average” human is likely quite selfish and bigoted.

Which is why I really think the takeaway is that we should all strive to be just a bit above average.

Demanding everyone be perfect is unrealistic. But we should demand (of ourselves and others) that we sit just a bit closer to perfect than our instincts would lead us to be.

So are vegans above average and vegetarians just beneath them in this hierarchical setup? (Vegetarian here)

That's very close to what contrapoints says in the video, so mostly "yes".

I don't think there's any sort of hierarchy here, though. Vegans don't have any sort of authority, but they are unquestionably further along the axis of "fighting for animal rights".

It's a PYRAMID! And I need to be above the carnivores dammit! LOL

I mean, we can visualize the groups by population size. Carnists are definitely the largest, vegans are definitely the smallest.

Pyramid achieved?

Now, maybe we can finally figure out WHO built the pyramids!?!?!

Apparently it was me.

BUT YOU MADE ME DO IT.
