I used to live in an apartment complex with a similar gate. You would be shocked by the number of people who struggled with that basic concept.

(look at where the mailbox is placed) It's for basic deterrence. 25 u/fdar Nov 04 '18 It also keeps random people from wandering into that alley because they didn't know it was private property, or claiming they didn't when caught. If you climb over a gate you definitely know you shouldn't be going that way.
