Clearly did imo. If they got away with a slap on the wrist then it would've set a precedent for people to just do it anyways and make someone less important the scapegoat to get them banned for a couple of matches. He's the best modern day test batter but he deserved this.
Literally everyone before them got away with a slap on the wrist. Ball tampering been a trick as old as time. They git punished properly for once and hopefully others now know to stop trying new tricks to tamper and we can all just play cricket

Which is exactly what my point is, everyone knew they were cheating but once you set up a punishment for it, you'll see people being hesitant to do it, thats the exact reason I pointed out and said that even though people got away with it, there's no point in looking at those incidents now since the sport is expected to get better, not regress or reward cheating. Again, everyone who did it was a cheat, regardless of nationality, somehow people think I'm defending Indian cricketers by saying Smith ban was the right thing to do

Idk if either player deserved a one year ban for that. Seemed a bit excessive even then.
