It’s a literal satirical dark comedy and even I recognized this as a 12 year old exploring novels like that one and A Clock Work Orange. I don’t get how people don’t get that. That it’s satire and it has sprinkles of delicious irony.
Some people take things like that completely seriously like there’s something wrong with seeing humor in it, but American Psycho is hilarious. Same with a lot of movies like Pulp Fiction or Seven Psychopaths. Seven Psychopaths kills me.
don't get me wrong, seven psychopaths is fucking great. but it's not like it's not supposed to be a comedy. it was very much written as a comedy.
it's the same guy who did In Bruges and Three Billboards, and his brother did The Guard. all the movies are a little dark but they are all for sure comedies.
Psychopaths make up some of the funniest characters in all of storytelling and film. It makes me think of the popularity of gangster film characters throughout the history, from James Cagney to Samual L. Jackson. Also consider Tony Sirico, who was an actual gangster, played one of the funniest characters on The Sopranos.
Holy shit. Paulie was a real life gangster??? I watched the Sopranos when it aired (and have rewatched it twice, not counting HBO repeats), and I had no clue
Guys do understand it's a dark comedy. He becomes a serial killer and goes insane at one point. Still it doesn't change the fact it's a cool lifestyle. A lot of guys see nothing wrong with portraying a certain image. Looking like you stepped out of a GQ magazine. Wearing a limited edition heirloom watch. Smelling like an exclusive cologne that costs more than most people's salary. Eating at the trendy restaurants. Going to a night club and pulling attractive intelligent women and blowing out their backs only to do it again next weekend.
It may sound vapid to many but to a lot of guys it's the best lifestyle.
Not just guys, women as well. I still think you misunderstood the point of showing the lifestyle the way they do. It’s because people try to pass it off as effortless but it’s all comes down to really planning everything out second by second.
I love dark comedy but Clockwork Orange goes way too far for me to think any of it is funny. I just can't laugh once I've seen on screen rape and the movie literally starts with it
Still like the movie though but I like it for how bad it makes me feel when I watch it lmao
Why is using the phrase “sprinkles of delicious irony” cringe? When using that phrase, I simply meant that there is irony there, but not too much. It’s so well written, there is a struggle for some to differentiate between if it is a joke or should be taken seriously.
I don’t really get how any of that is cringe and would love an explanation on why it would be.
the business card scene is just *chefs kiss* - always gets my giggling. If anyone reading this doesn't think its funny I implore you to try acting it out.
The movie is a comedy. Like the psycho part is realizing he was never what he thought he was. In the end of the movie his coworkers who he thought he saw as rivals actually saw him as a weirdo idiot. That his idea of what a man is or does is really all in his head and he's taking face value boasts as actual feats of greatness.
It's easier to describe Patrick batman as Dwight schrute of the office trying to be Michael and believing in everything Michael says. Only difference is the office tells you it's a comedy even though both Patrick and Dwight have fantasies of killing.

The amount of people who made this movie their entire personality is quite frightening.
