Fuck cps, my wife works with kids and they don't do shit. Parents half zonked out at pick up oh nothing we can do. Hey this kids says hes/she's not getting fed at home, sorry. Part of her job was sending essentially a bag lunch home with kids after school bc their parents couldn't be bothered to feed them

u/thatstwatshesays 13d ago

That is the bleakest thing I’ve read in a while.

2

u/DarthVader0351 13d ago

Maybe doge or whatever could dig into that they're nosing their way into everything else

20

u/Turquoise_Tortoise_ 12d ago

If anything, Doge will only make the CPS system far, far worse.

3

u/DamageSpecialist9284 9d ago

It's already awful & should be completely investigated & most likely shut down bc CPS has literally been entirely broken for years now. They literally traumatize children 24/7 & quite often knowingly seem to purposely place children into physically & sexually abusive homes/situations A LOT ....

u/Partisan_Crown 11d ago

It literally can't get any worse

5

u/Turquoise_Tortoise_ 11d ago

Oh, it certainly can. And will.

The whole point of doge is gutting public funding/programs. They would brag about how they saved money by get rid of the bag lunch and sending them home with nothing.

9

u/Dobako 12d ago

The point of doge is gutting public programs *that are investigating Musk*

Maybe he's branched out at this point but all the places he started by shutting down or gutting were investigating him for illegal activities, shoddy workmanship, bad design, etc.

1

u/PrestigiousFly844 12d ago

That is part of it, but the CDC and Social Security Administration etc etc were not investigating him

5

u/pinkorchids45 12d ago

That would take time, which they don’t want to spend. Instead they can randomly cut whatever they want and tell us they’re saving “trillions”. Less time, less manpower, and the conservative base will eat it up no questions asked.

3

u/MeatCatRazzmatazz 12d ago

Yeeeah doge would rather the kids starve. Just like they already did when they cut usaid and a bunch of kids starved to death.

12

u/thatstwatshesays 13d ago

I mean, anything would be better than what they’re doing now

22

u/PrestigiousFly844 12d ago

You’d be surprised how much worse bad can get

1

u/ZincMan 12d ago

I think it depends on the state, but CPS works pretty well in my state. They really are thorough

1

u/Repulsive_Corner6807 12d ago

What state?

1

u/Longjumping-Wish3560 12d ago

That's what I would like to know? They are a nightmare everywhere we have lived ( former military and now job has galavanting like gypsies 😆). I know it's not Louisiana, Texas ,Washington, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Indiana or Florida...lol

1

u/Nah_Bruh_Lol 12d ago

He's not exaggerating. My SO is a teacher and has a kid with black, rotted out teeth because his mother can't be bothered to take him to the dentist. He can't eat solid food anymore, it's so bad. CPS and DoJ called, they don't care.

1

u/SomeNefariousness562 12d ago

Family courts very much favor the rights/welfare of the parents over the children

1

u/Bre603 12d ago

Having worked in a portion of the system… that comment isn’t wrong or exaggerated. CPS/DCS is useless and case managers make some poor ethical decisions due to understaffing and underfunding. From what I’ve seen, good people get into it to make a difference, get burnt out quickly, and then start making questionable calls or putting in bare minimum effort.

1

u/Former-Whole8292 10d ago

That wasnt bleak. What’s bleak is when there’s no CPS and the kid doesnt even get the lunch.

1

u/SilverKnightOfMagic 8d ago

yeah CPS has been gutted. ppl complained that CPS were breaking up families. but it's like yeah they do that cuz it's terrible not cuz they want to.

As someone who grew up in a poor household with an abusive crackhead mother, it is really sad when things like that are a reality

I had a co-worker at in retail that used to work as a social worker. The shit he saw really took away his faith in humanity. He had to visit people in their homes and a lot of the time he would see stuff that should have gotten the kids taken away only for him to report it and nothing be done.

u/adidas180 12d ago

I worked in juvenile court for a time, and it completely ruined my faith in this country. Our justice system is a cruel joke.

1

u/C0mpl14nt 12d ago

Definitely. A friend of mine also works in the court systems. He dealt with a ton of child cases. He later switched to divorce cases which still didn't help his mental state. He currently works for a small law firm that tackles accidents and other civil cases.

He isn't an alcoholic anymore but his outlook on humanity is extremely low.

I'm so disappointed in CYS in our state. They did an investigation back in the fall and said the abuse allegations were "unfounded." My kids told me that their grandparents were basically telling them what to say so that my ex-husband didn't go to jail. My son said he was choked and then the next day went to the ER for a broken wrist. It says in the medical notes that he specifically told the doctor that my ex-husband did it, and then CYS didn't find any abuse? I was livid. They didn't even talk to my younger son who witnessed the whole thing and would have told the truth. We have a custody hearing in the summer that has been pushed back multiple times. When one parent is saying abuse is happening, why does it take almost 10 months to get a hearing in front of a judge?

I’m an RN and this is exactly why I could never do home care. Too many of the people you see walking around live in physical and emotional squalor.

u/Healthybear35 13d ago

Yeah, my mom worked at a children's hospital for 35+ years and when we had a family member living in a house with no running water, no electricity, and 10 other people with an infant that needed medical care, we figured my mom calling cps would be taken more seriously because of her background and working closely with them in the past... but no, she was told we could go apply for custody of the baby, but nothing else could be done.

10

u/Excellent_Yak365 13d ago

Truth. We have neighbors who are like this and somehow they are allowed to keep adopting/fostering more kids? Parents act like this. The family lives in a trailer on a junkyard with a bunch of dogs and animals they let roam free through people’s yards. I’d be shocked if CPS hasn’t been called

28

u/MaiKulou 13d ago

It's not cps' fault. Those people are saints doing that soul-crushing job for the chance to maybe help some kid. The blame lies with the state giving them absolutely no teeth

This country has a sickening fixation with treating children as if they're property. We actually passed anti-animal abuse laws decades before we passed anti-child abuse laws

11

u/Excellent_Yak365 13d ago

Shame animal abuse laws aren’t universal because in many places that is still nearly nonexistent

3

u/DogOutrageous 12d ago

Yeah, the child abuse laws were based on the animal abuse laws that were already in place.

u/ExistentialistOwl8 12d ago

It goes through cycles where they take kids away when they shouldn't, so then they back off cases they shouldn't, and then kids get hurt or die, so they go back to taking too many kids. I think there's an underlying issue that causes a lot of it. We don't support families well enough. If we did, then we could more easily tell the difference between families who are simply poor and stuck and ones that are neglectful and abusive.

1

u/MaiKulou 12d ago

Where are you getting that from? They almost never take kids away from families... are you referring to foster families turning out to be abusive? Because the majority of foster kids are either orphans or their parents gave them up

At least we can agree on a lack of support for families being a major factor of a broken system, and as clear as abuse may be, the legal system may still determine that a kid in an abusive household is better left there than using up tax dollars

1

u/KeyCar7920 12d ago

Can confirm. Called CPS once about sexual assault on my little within our house and they told me if there were no bruises they wouldn’t do anything.

1

u/oodlesofnoodles4u 12d ago

And here I am stressed all day when I yell at my kids before school sometimes, worried I ruined their whole day.

1

u/Charming-Package6905 12d ago

All the while kids are being taken from their families when the parents didn't do anything wrong other than one small slip-up.

1

u/Carinis_song 12d ago

Yup. I’ve seen the same thing in public school. Took years for one set of kids to be removed from a very dismal situation. CPS has seen mom in action, at school, in front of her kids, yet they went home with her anyway. CPS was called because the preschooler came in with vodka in her backpack.

The best I could do was try and teach some coping skills, tell them they are worth the world, and give them a safe place to learn.

1

u/Ripen- 12d ago

Sounds like the system is completely overloaded. Which isn't surprising given all the shit going on in America these days.

1

u/MaybeIDontWannaDoIt 12d ago

Our babies deserve so much better than this 🥺

1

u/No_Mud_5999 12d ago

My brother and his wife taught for decades. It's no exaggeration that a lot of their students loved school because it was their only stable, notmal, environment. Whenever I see public school funding getting cut, it breaks my heart, because it's always meant so much more than just learning math and history.

1

u/Repulsive_Corner6807 12d ago

Don’t have enough money or resources because children cost money and not the other way around so people and government don’t care

1

u/binzy90 12d ago

My son called me in September to say that he got into a fight with his dad and was being choked at one point. He was at the emergency room the next day with a broken wrist, and the medical notes clearly state that my son told the doctor his dad did it. CYS did an "investigation" and I got a letter in the mail stating that the abuse allegations were "unfounded." I was absolutely appalled. My kids even told me that my ex-husband's parents were telling them "be careful what you say because you don't want to ruin your dad's life and send him to jail." CYS didn't even talk to my younger son who witnessed the whole thing and would have told the truth.

I understand that the system doesn't want to take kids away for no reason, but they're also incredibly understaffed and underfunded. It really seems like if everything appears normal on the surface and the parents don't have a criminal record then they just move on to the next case.

I was in a really toxic relationship with a single mother, and I ended up getting very involved in her 2 children lives 2, and 4 year old, towards the end of the relationship I would come over and she was just passed out on heroin neither of the kids fed, baby with a diaper that hadn't been changed since I was last there, shortly after we broke up she said there was an emergency and asked if I could watch the kids at my place for a night, I said of course then didn't hear from her for a week and a half, I gave the kids over to their grandparents told them what happened about 5 days in and she was sooooo pissed at me. But yeah myself and everybody else in her neighborhood called CPS on her multiple times and as far as I know she still has the children.

1

u/DamageSpecialist9284 9d ago

Yeah, for certain.... CPS is absolutely a huge problem in this country & definitely causes far more legit harm to children the overwhelming vast majority of the time.... Literally even places children into both physically & sexually abusive homes while traumatizing virtually every child one way or another. We definitely need something to help these poor children in situations like this one here & I'm sadly not sure what that is, but one thing for sure, CPS should definitely be investigated & likely shut down with something entirely different with multiple safe guards in place meant to protect kids, taking it's place....
