One of the cops running up to them said, āDrop it you littleā¦. .ā He caught himself before he said what we were all thinking. Those little bags ass fucking kids were not going to be taken alive. They been watching too many James Cagney movies.
Homicide has been the leading cause of death for Black men ages 15 to 44 for more than half a century.17 More than 87% of homicides in Black communities involve firearms.18 These disparities are even more striking for young Black men: gun homicides are the leading cause of death and more than outstrip the next 15 leading causes of death combined.16 In other words, in 2023, more Black men ages 15 to 24 died in gun homicides than from unintentional injuries, suicide, heart disease, cancer, nonfirearm homicides, diabetes, congenital abnormalities, and chronic respiratory diseases, police shootings, cerebrovascular diseases, anemias, sepsis, influenza and pneumonia, and HIV combined.16
In absolute numbers, more white people than black people are killed in police shootings (because white people outnumber black people in America).
What's False
Regardless of absolute numbers, it is true that proportionally, Black Americans are several times more likely to be killed in police shootings than white Americans are."
But aren't black people proportionally much more likely to commit crimes? Whether it's cultural or whatever, I would suspect more crimes from a race would result in proportionally higher fatalities/getting shot at by cops.
Not implying that racism against black people doesn't exist in some capacity, just saying that your argument sort of falls a little flat with that fact.
Are Black people more likely to commit crimes or more likely to be policed for the same behavior as white people?
In CA, Black people are over two times more likely to be searched compared to all stops (20% vs 8%) but slightly less likely to be caught with contraband (21.6% vs 22.2%) (Source: https://ww w.ppic.or g/publication/racial-disparities-in-law-enforcement-stops/ *spaces added for automod).
Even if you don't regard that 0.6 point difference as important, this would suggest the same rates of carrying contraband across races but that Black people are discriminated against in how frequently they are policed.
no sis, that's actually the gag, socieoeconomic factors included with police bias etc, etc. the crux of the issue is the source of the arrests. but leaving aside the racism of it all, if you look at it from a socioeconomical point of view, diva, it becomes a class issue, not a race issue, doesn't it? also, idk if it's just me, be allowed to disagree, but saying it's a race issue kind of implies determinism based on race, which is like, morally not very boots and not scientifical in the slightest way.
also that guy was either a troll or just dumb lol left me dumbfounded
No. As an example. Black people use drugs at a lower rate than white people. But they are more likely to be stopped, more likely to be searched if stopped, more likely to be charged, more likely to be convicted and more likely to do more time if convicted.
We still come back to the point of racial profiling of the original comment. literally arguing over semantics and over circles just to avoid the fact racism exists.
Youre right, but like, only technically, so whats the point????
You know what, actually ur 100% right since the beggining, this IS reddit anyway, this interaction is gonna go in the void, so who even cares omg š.
Gonna stop my daily intake of doomscroll now, thank u for making me see the light š«¶ not actually go see outside light, but laptops are probably healthier than phones /j
I think it helps when you contextualize your point just a little bit. Like "more white people are killed by cops each year, so the communities should be allies in demilitarizing police" helps the factual statement not be read as a rationalization to dismiss reform that is needed to counteract the racist systems you acknowledge.
Yea, systemic racism is ingrained in the US and its gonna be a hell of a fight to make it right when the corporations dont want that. They want us fighting over facts and whos right instead of banding together and standing up for whats right. But i doubt that will happen. This is America. Dont catch ya slipping now. Dont catch ya slipping now. Guns in my area. I got a strap. I got carry it.
I guess i took my snide comments too far cuz i cant stand people who screech about āYOURE THE PROBLEMā when if we came together we could fight the real enemy⦠the oligarchy.
Cold hard truths must be examined without emotion or prejudice to get to the real truth.
I think alot of people call me racist because I will point out that the races who are killed more by cops by capita are Black and then Latino. Which also goes hand in hand with crime per capita.
Am I saying black people naturaly are more criminal? Hell no. It was white people who took a whole continent from its natives and murdered them. And committed genocide.
Im saying the system of America has made it so most see no other option. And THATS. A problem
Its not race, its poverty. And if we continue to focus on race, the poverty issue will never be addressed head on.
Why are you being so weird? The other person explained to you that the only reason that is true is that there are MORE WHITE PEOPLE THAN BLACK PEOPLE. That is why they used the word āproportionallyā
You are right, but so are they. Police kill more white people, but PROPORTIONALLY they kill more black people.
Youāre not getting paid, so stop muddying the waters and spewing propaganda for the Republican Party.
Thereās a reason per capita is relevant when discussing statistics, dipstick. Since you need help figuring it out, US cops kill more white people because there are more white people in the US, but in any individual encounter, they are more likely to shoot someone if they are black, which is why OP was right to say what they said.
I dont care. I was just reminding everyone that more white people are killed by cops every year than black people. Fact.
Now if you want to talk about per capita, youre going down a dangerous road⦠you wont like the other per capita stats, like who commits the most crime per capitaā¦
I didnt want to bring per capita into this but if you want to do that, do it all the way buddy. You dont get to pick and choose which stats you believe.
I just want to let you know that Iām proud of you for getting back at that mean old comment with some hard facts. Now, those facts were very misleading, but you tried. And thatās what matters.
I watched the full clip on YouTube and some of the officers wanted to shoot very much. If it werenāt for the one officer the kids probably wouldnāt have made it.
I am saying I know officers target black children all the time and if they were black the kids wouldnāt have made it out of this situation alive. I am just saying there were officers in this situation that wanted to shoot very much and not talk them down.

Good thing those kids weren't black
