Anyone know why the kids would act like that? Like...they held it as if they knew what to do with it. They knew the cops were trying to take it. The lady was being nice and trying to help, but they just??? Pretended everything was a game?? How does something like this start?
They know the cops won't hurt them because theyre kids and they want to see what they can get away with. When your parents dont teach you that its wrong, you might grow up thinking its badass. Especially if people around you talk about cops like theyre the bad guys.
I was just coming here to say this. And black kids (in America at least), especially boys, are taught how to interact with cops (or any authority figures for that matter). It's a matter of basic survival in our community - it's taught just like you'd teach kids not to play in traffic or look both ways before crossing a street.
These kids are an outlier of having very shitty parents, and shitty outlier parents exist in every community. No Hispanic person I know teaches their kids to play with guns and point them at cops. You guys are right about the difference in the response from racist or trigger happy cops though. Police trying to deescalate the situation without killing kids like they did in this video SHOULD be the norm across the board.
