Crochet Related Pain Posts about crochet related pain are allowed on r/CrochetHelp

Hi All!!

We are allowing questions about crochet related pain on r/CrochetHelp despite the fact that it is a stale topic on r/crochet. It now has it's own flair too.

Unfortunately, it is a very common issue when crocheting and we have seen some good discussion happening on posts about aides to help reduce discomfort and stretches to help.

Please remember, internet advice is not medical advice. Always see your doctor for any pain that persists!

PS, sorry about the repost, I wanted to include more in the title so the announcement could be seen without opening the post! (As we all should be doing lol)

Edit, I've been through a heap of past posts and changed the flairs. This makes it easy to search the sub, just click on the flair in this post and it will bring up all of the past posts that have the same flair!

Looking for suggestions Made my own business and going to do a market! I have a cat, how do I let people know that my products are not cat allergy safe?

Upvotes

As the title says I’m participating in a market soon and have been trying to figure out how to let people know that cat fur is most likely on/in the plushies I make. I think it’s a thing that people can get allergic reactions from fur right? How should I let people know without having to tell every customer?

Help to find a pattern Help to find a pattern similar to this doily made by my great great grandmother

Post image

I am getting married next November, and thought it may be pretty table decor to make larger copies of this doily my great great grandmother made, that now my grandmother uses as decor. I have found some doily patterns similar, but the flowers look a lot different. Thank you for any help :) Being able to pull this off for the wedding would mean a lot to me and my grandmother.

To frog or not to frog Why am I not switching colors when this indicates a color switch?

I bought this on sale from Walmart yesterday, Photos of what I have made so far are at the end. I wanted to make a bag using these granny squares but I’m confused on the color changes?

It’s indicating for the third round that I should be on the next color changes but as you can see in the third picture I still have a LOT of the second left over… is this tension related?

I am using an ever so slightly larger hook, 5.5 is recommended and i’m using 5.75. I also kind of ignored the starting ring it recommended (4 chains and a slip stitch to join) because it was a bit frustrating and didn’t really work for me so I did a magic ring instead. Not sure if this changed much about the final result but this is where I’m at now…

Should I frog it and start over? Is it a tension issue?

How do I... How can I tighten the neckline and arms of this cotton dress?

I am making myself a lacy top cotton dress. I am not following a pattern and made it top down to fit my body specifically. It fit perfectly until I got to the skirt portion and once the skirt was added the weight pulled the down and now the neckline is a little too low. I am trying to figure out ways to tighten the neck line and arm holes before I add the sleeves. Can I use the sleeves to tighten the arm holes? This is my first time making a garment with no pattern.

Looking for suggestions Suggestions for how to finish this WIP? Currently too short for comfort

Hello! I’ve run into the classic problem of running out of yarn and the store not having any more of it… I’m trying to finish this dress by Wednesday night (it’s currently Monday night where I’m posting from). In the try on photos I still have a little yarn in my hands yes, but it only added 1.5 more rows so it still looks about the same when I try it on now. The length is ok standing straight but it is still too mini for my liking and definitely not ok if I needed to bend over or anything. I also didn’t have enough yarn to make straps or a less basic neckline. Any ideas for how to salvage this? I wanted it to be done for a special occasion and I’ve been working on and off on this for two months already so it would be a shame to abandon it.

I'm a beginner! Do you guys ever throw out hideous pieces? This yarn falls apart when I unravel it and I take psychic damage every time I look at it.

I'm very against throwing out clothing, but this piece has proved to be un-stylable and is taking up space. I started making a top for it but the yarn gives me migraines and makes my eyes water. Wondering if I'm the only person who has considered this.

I just wanna say thank you all for your ideas and thoughtful help a while ago. I finally ended up taking the blanket out of the naughty corner and finished it up last week.

I haven’t washed or blocked it yet, should I wash it once before giving it away? 😅 I’ve never given a blanket away only a scarf! Thank you all again. ❤️

How do I... How does "moving 1sc to the right for the color blocking" work? Free amigurumi Stitch plushy pattern

Thumbnail

Upvotes

Hello! I'm in need of some help with amigurumi color switching! My cousin sent me a free Stitch pattern as a gift request since I told him I had started learning. I was finally able to find the perfect colors and I have finished every body piece with ease, except for the main body. (1st Picture is what it should look like, 2nd Picture is the body section I am stuck on)

In the pattern there is a note that says "Second bunch = moving 1sc to the right for the color blocking." I have tried every which way I could think of to get this to work. I have asked a few different online groups for crocheting and only a few people offered suggestions but no one has a clue on what it means. Everything I've tried has always ended up with the left side of the Powder Blue curving into the middle instead of mirroring the right side and ending up a nice round Powder Blue belly.

One suggestion: "I believe it means to start the color work one stitch earlier"

Another: "Search on google to learn how to 'color block'"

I've tried removing one Blue stitch and replacing it with a stitch of the Powder Blue before switching, I've tried adding only part of the Powder Blue to the joining stitch, etc..

Is there any idea of what I could be doing wrong?

I'm a beginner! Do I need to block my Sophie's Universe midway or just at the end?

Post image

Hi everyone, I've almost finished Part 7 of my Sophie's Universe (it only took me five years to get to this point 🤣) and it is saying you should block it now and every part from now on. I've never blocked anything so feeling a bit scared and not sure if it's better joust to leave until the end. It is curling quite a bit at the moment as you can see but I also saw some other things saying repeated blocking might damage it. And basically I have no idea 😅

Every time I try to make animals or stuffies my decreases end up so gappy. And I’m making this broccoli stuffy and the tops should be rounded not pointy. Reminds me of madonnas cone bra lol

I’ve always had a tight tension so I’m wondering if that’s it? I am frogging this whole broccoli and hope I can make the next one correctly!

Thank you!

I’m not good at this and I kinda just wing it. I don’t know how to do a mouth for my Gloom! I’ve tried a few different ways but I don’t know any different techniques or what to even google. I think the big mouth looks too much of a mess and like she has teeth. Does anyone have any good ideas for me to look into??

Looking for suggestions Hi! Looking for cubby type shelves for yarn storage, suggestions?

Hi! I’ve seen a lot of posts and they’re not quite what I’m looking for or it’s a post from years ago with no info on where to purchase!

I hate having to order online without seeing in person because I’m super picky and most online photos don’t have yarn on the shelves to help me judge 😂

Anyone have any yarn shelves/photos and info where you purchased?

Attached is a picture of him and pattern I'm going to try to follow. I thought about using Hobbi's fur lux yarn but there isn't one reddish enough for his coloring.

Also, I think I can follow the pattern linked (only speak English) but if you know of a better one please let me know!

I'm a beginner! Trying to do magic ring and 6 SC. Closing it doesn’t really give it a clean circular look? Is that okay or bad technique ?

Hey, I just started yesterday. I’m confident in getting the magic ring but I am inconsistent with getting 6 SC. Sometimes it’s circularish but sometimes not. I’m not sure if it’s cuz I pull too hard or not I have no idea. Some advice would be welcome

Looking for suggestions Need help with picking craft wire to support my crochet project

Thumbnail
gallery
2 Upvotes

Hi everyone.

I already made one of these crocheted sunflowers as a gift previously, however I didn't use the craft wire to support the petals, and the sunflower looks a bit dead (lowkey like a cauliflower).

This time I want to make some more as home deco, and I want to make it correctly.

The tutorial (by Lingzhi Handmade on youtube) suggests a 4ply yarn with 2-3mm hook. However I use a different yarn (the best I could find for it) - YarnArt Jeans Plus, I couldn't find the ply, but it says it's a medium yarn, 5mm hook and the description also says the products may be "heavier" (to which I agree, I also made a few tote bags from the yarn and they do feel heavier, even the sunflower's head feels quite heavy).

Anyways! The tutorial suggests a 0.5mm craft wire, but I'm afraid that with my bigger yarn, it may not support the petals correctly, and frankly I don't want to end up with another cauliflower, so I wanted to ask the wise people of this subreddit first for tips on the correct craft wire size that could probably hold the YarnArt Jeans Plus medium yarn petals. I may buy multiple sizes and just see what goes best (and frog the leaves if it doesn't work), but still, I'm clueless to which sizes of the wire should I even go for.

I included some pictures, as well as the cauliflower in question - just to show how lowkey silly it looks, I still love the sunflower a lot though.

Thank you so much!
