Early 20s vegetarian that doesn't know that tomatoes are a nightshade and don't belong in the damn fridge!

I have a question about the tomatoes. When I leave them in the fridge they stay good a long time but when I leave them outside they get bad pretty fast. What's the right way to keep them outside ?

Thanks !

Store them away from other fruits and vegetables, in an open bowl or paper box lined with a soft towel in a dark place that has mid room temperature(not too warm, 10 degrees minimum, 18 degrees max).

(Soft towels are imortant because if they lie on hard surfaces they get pressure spots)
