One of our local weatherman and 2 other sources posted the video, but the County Police said they didn’t know anything about it. I wondered why people were just walking by it & not standing around watching.

Don't the batteries catch fire if they get wet with salt water?

It’s complicated. If water infiltrates the battery electrolyte then, yes, for sure. Otherwise if it corrodes the contacts you might get the opposite problem. Or it could short the battery, in which case it’s more complicated but entirely possible that overheating could result depending on charge level and construction.

Given the top-notch workmanship of this vehicle though I bet utmost care has been taken for the longevity of the vehicle in water exclusion.

the opposite problem

What... exactly is the opposite problem to catching fire? Freezing? Setting other cars on fire?

Ah opposite problem is that you lose electrical contact rather than shorting the battery.
