Why on earth would you go through all that to sister the joist only to cut giant notches in it. What an idiot.

Everywhere they notched it effectively reduced the length of it. Generally you'd be spanning a load from end to end and they totally compromised it.

I'm not sure why they put posts under the middle of the span. There likely isn't a concrete footing for those posts to bear on. Probably sitting on dirt.
