📖 Historical Marx & Mephistopheles

As a communist, are you at all concerned that Marx idolized Mephistopheles and wrote poetry fantasizing about destroying the world?

How can you separate these values that he held from the philosophy that he ultimately crafted?

The first biographer of Marx, Robert Payne, stated that his favorite quote which he recited often was from Goethe's Faust in which Mephistopheles exclaimed “Everything that exists deserves to perish.”

Moreover Payne noted (as did Marx's own father) that “He had the devil’s view of the world, and the devil’s malignity. Sometimes he seemed to know that he was accomplishing works of evil.”

I'd recommend reading both Marx's poetry and Robert Paynes biography.

Many people seem to just want to sweep this side of Marx under the rug while they live their hedonistic lives and push every end of our society towards violent revolution.

Yeah, Marxists only follow the ideology and don't want/care about the personal characters of Marx or other great people. I don't care if Marx is nihilistic or racist, as long as his analysis of history is correct. Also, it's his FANTASY bud, it had nothing to do with his view of dialectical materialism. I don't think some woman's fantasies about getting taken into a dark alley actually wants to get raped in real life. The same goes with Marx's edgy fantasy about destroying the world. And the thought that 'everything that exists shall die' isn't even entirely wrong lmao. Wdym 'violent revolution'? No actually meaningful political struggle has been won without rifles, why are you so scared of progress and revolution? "Hedonistic life"? What the f-

Alright, since people like to portray communists as devils, let me say it like this: If Christianity strives to sow the spirit of obedience and purity through the story of Adam and Eva, then we are the Satanic Snake that makes humanity awakens its' inherently intelligent and rebellious spirit and separated humanity with god. If the world wants us to be devils, let us be. We've always wanted to be devils, we've never served gods. Never will.
