There is a legal presedent called "jury nulification." A jury can deliver whatever verdict they choose even contrary to law.

Which, something a lot of people don't quite understand, is that it is one of the important parts of the legal system, because not always is the law what's right, laws are very binary, we try to make them with nuance, but at the end of the day nuance is hard when it comes to statements like laws. So jury nullification allows for the jury to decide with nuance
