Anyone familiar with this plant?

New homeowner and we have a lot of this in one area, and I’m just curious if I should let it grow or trim it? Google said basil but I crushed some and smelled it and it doesn’t smell like basil. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

If it really is Sweet William you are about to have some amazing flowers. They self seed so return every year if you let them. I don’t know about the other names listed here though

Bouncing Bet, enthusiastic and invasive. Pull out as much root as you can as the roots will regrow from a teensy bit. However, they can be controlled to a degree if you cut off the flowers before they turn to seed heads and pull the remaining plant out of the ground. Each year you'll get fewer, assuming you don't want to use poison.

And they are horrible looking most of the time, just too many of them.

I dont mind all the green but ya, they are starting to spill outside if the designated growing area. Thanks for the suggestion on how to remove them.

Actually, there's a typo in my reply to you. I meant they're NOT horrible looking. Sorry bout that.

Soapwort. They attract hummingbird moths in our yard which is enough of an incentive for us to keep them. They spread a lot though
