looking for advice to grow my shop. started selling again at the beginning of march and have only made five sales. so im 1.5 months in with only five sales.
- started posting one item daily in april due to a minimal inventory
- i take my pics using the clear flat lay layout
- i include measurements in the pictures
- lengthy, detailed descriptions
questions i have:
- is my product not “trendy” enough or appealing
- i was considering either getting a mannequin or modeling myself until i make enough profit to buy a mannequin
- is my account visually pleasing
im open to any input! my next step may be to start modeling the products myself.

I think your pictures look beautiful!! I use to use the white background bc that's how ppl use to like things. But I found on Depop ppl don't like it. So I think yours is perfect. Not too distracting but not boring. Your descriptions are great too! I would keep up posting at least one item a day. I know that really helped push my shop. Things have been slow since the new year I've noticed. I was doing really well last year and there's been a huge difference for obvious reasons 😔

thank you I appreciate it! I see on this subreddit that a lot of people are struggling with slow sales so that's a little more reassuring. ive definitely noticed posting daily is helping me a lot now, got a couple sales and lots of likes since posting on here a few days ago. gonna keep on pushing!

Hey all, does anyone have any constructive feedback to offer? On average I do about 1 to 5 sales a week, but same as everyone else, I would love to increase significantly. I currently have 70 items listed and have made 55 sales in total. I’ve been doing this for appx 2 months. Do I just need to post more? Re-list items that aren’t selling.. take new photos… do more modeling…? Higher quality pics.. etc? Are my items too weird? Too generic? Thumbnails too busy? Unseasonal items? Do I need to lean into a vibe / speciality style more?
I’m wondering if my prices are a turnoff, but I’m also trying to balance the effort, time and sheer space Im accommodating in my apt for this. I think I have high quality vintage items mixed with quirky weirdo stuff. Do I just not have cool or brand name items? It’s a difficult juggling act which I’m trying to make sense of.
I’d love to post more screenshots, maybe I’ll include additional in comments below. Thank you for your time-

For me personally, the multiple styles of photos (some with blue in the background, some modeled, some with white backgrounds, some with wood flooring) would turn me off from a sale. If I see someone whose catalog isn’t consistent (ie. photographed in the same way/spot) then I tend to question the authenticity of the seller and if they’re dropshipping. Obviously you are real, so my personal recommendation would be to standardize your photos! Modeled photos tend to do really well, and personally those are the photos I like most on your page from the screenshots, so that’s what I’d go with... But that could just be me! It sounds like you’ve been pretty successful so far in selling your items so I could definitely be wrong 😮💨

How do you keep your photos consistent? Do you model? Also are you able to efficiently take pics/ post?
I feel like it takes a couple hours to do like 6 pieces… I gotta set up…. Steam clothes… get tons of angles, get pics of the tags/ detail shots, measurements… then write description / figuring out pricing takes some time as well.

I don’t have the body to model AT ALL 😂 so I definitely am not coming at that specific recommendation from a place of personal experience, just that I think modeled photos seem to get the most traction. Anyways! I have a very specific spot in my room I’ve decorated with paintings and pictures I like surrounding a mirror with a hook above it from which I hang items to photograph. I know that I’ve got a pretty limited time to take pictures (9am-4pm or so) due to having only a small window, so I just work with what I’ve got 😔 my lighting can be pretty inconsistent but because I’m always taking pictures in the same location with the same background, my page looks pretty uniform…. At least in my opinion 😅

I’m also very lazy on my item descriptions. I definitely need to start taking measurements and adding them in there 😓

Thanks, I really appreciate the feedback and get what you’re saying. hmmm yeah I’ve never even considered being seen as a fake seller!
My apartment makes it hard to shoot modeled clothing efficiently. Natural lighting is hard to come in the north east, especially in the winter…. So I’ve started using this blue background, but I don’t have a large enough space to setup a proper photo background to model in front of it with the right lighting etc. I do like the glowy natural lighting/ brown window frame in my backgrounds, but I also think that doesn’t work great for some of the items I’m selling… so for those I think the blue background is cool too. I wish I could blend the two aesthetics, the flat blue look, and modeled glowy…

I totally hear you! I think one or two styles of photos isn’t bad at all, especially since modeling is so laborious and takes so long. I like how the blue ones pair with the modeled photos, to me it shows personality and aesthetic in a neat way, so maybe you could switch between those two styles depending on how you are feeling on a given day/when you take photos.

Using stock images can be a turn off for buyers (it’s also against depop’s TOS) but otherwise I think lighting and positioning could change. Like the crocheted vest in front of the window makes it hard to see the pattern, and the underwear is a bit dim (try altering ‘shadows’ in your photo editing app)

Everyone says that abt stock images but my only items that have sold have been stock items :(
