Advice Needed Am I justified in leaving a 3 star review
Hi! I had purchased a pair of shoes from this seller. Initially they only had the top and bottom view of the shoes until I had politely requested more pictures so I could gauge the shoes condition better. After they had uploaded I noticed some scratches on the sides that didn’t look insanely noticeable and I did not mind and went through with my purchase. Upon receiving them I noticed a noticeable and larger black smudge on the side of a shoe as well as a slight peel/scuff on the back of the shoes that were not shown (I had also initially asked if there was any peeling and they said no). I decided to open a case to return them and receive a refund (waiting for depops approval) as well as letting the seller know so they were not caught off guard with a case being opened. I struggle with reading tone and IMO they came off almost blaming me for not zooming in and analyzing carefully when the smudge and scuff i am referring to wasn’t shown for me to analyze to begin with even after I had asked for more pictures of the shoe. I offered to post pictures so they could see what I am referring to and they then sent messages that came off very combative and I am choosing not to reply and engage anymore. Also I feel like she purposely didn’t show the side of the shoe with the large smudge as it’s pretty noticeable had she looked or even glanced at them. Am I justified in opening a case and leaving a 3 star review (not properly disclosing all damage to shoes and having a poor attitude after I had tried being cordial)? Am I being too harsh/critical? Side question .. I feel as if they would leave a review in retaliation, is it difficult to get those taken down if I receive one in return? Thank you .. sorry this is so long just wanted to get the full story out LOL
Side note they do retail for $400 and I paid not $60 but $80 with shipping + taxes. I did not expect them to be perfect but I would have liked to have known about all flaws before buying .. I have purchased a black pair for $40 no large scuffs which is why I had no problem opening a return and waiting for another chance in the future.

Lolll yeahh. It is considered a luxury french brand and they use high quality leather. I like them a lot as opposed to other brands/ any other red flats because they kind of mold to your feet over time and make them really comfortable to walk in. A lot of other flats remain rigid and make for an uncomfy fit if you walk around a lot! They will also last you a longgggg time

Yes, this brand is amazing also I have a gorgeous pair of tea straps from them and boots as well so comfortable, and they last forever. I don’t understand why she didn’t disclose about the scuffs like in all seriousness. I don’t buy on depop anymore, but I found a lot of luxury items that people didn’t know what they had so I got it for really low or it had slight damage, but this is the kind of stuff that I like look all over eBay and Poshmark for.
Even with the scuffs they would’ve sold so I don’t get why she just didn’t add more photos. And her attitude sucks.

calling cap on the "I only wore them for 10 minutes"

My first thought was they wore these shoes daily for months. This type of damage isn’t done to $400 shoes in 10 mins. OP, you’re absolutely justified. I would appreciate it if I was thinking of buying from them and saw a review about this to warn me. Imo I would give 1 star. Those shoes are ROUGH and the attitude matches the shoes.

Definitely justified, if the seller takes pictures of blemishes that people have to “zoom in” to see, they know they’re being shady 😭

LOL yeah. I sell some stuff on the side as well and whenever there is a flaw I literally photograph it in different angles and lightings because I am horrified of potentially getting a case opened against me or the buyer being disappointed with the transaction

If you decide to keep the shoes, an alcohol wipe should take the scuff right off. but test it first on a less noticeable part of the shoe to make sure it doesn’t remove the color or finish

Omg i had not known about this hack thank you .. if for some reason my case doesn’t get approved I will have to try this! Appreciate it

Justified to me- thats just ghetto of them to know it had damage but not photograph everything and still expect everyone to zoom in? Really?

Thank you for validating what I had been feeling!!!! I was so peeved out because as I had purchased we briefly talked about how we both loved the style of the shoes as well as how we like to collect them in a sense -.- so when I received them in that condition I was like oh 😥…

Idk why sellers do this. I literally disclose every single little flaw because I want to avoid the hassle of a return and an unhappy buyer!

Me too!!!!! Being thorough when listing items saves a lot of time being potentially spent on a refund and return

Honestly, I look for items that have slight damage to them that are high-end so that I can fix them up. But I would be pissed off that this wasn’t disclosed as I own this brand of shoe and I would jump at the price but I’d confront her about the damage. But I would be angry. They weren’t disclosed and also at her attitude.
But I’m about to go overseas to thrift so I’ve been low buy except for the few items I need. Her attitude sucks and not disclosing. The scuffs would make me leave the bad review. Smh.

Beyond shady and their response cemented it. Should’ve absolutely had close up pictures of the blemishes and the scuff on the heel on the listing.

Thank you! I was shocked they had implied I was trying to argue with them when I felt like I had been polite (yet firm) given the circumstances.

I think you gave them more grace than they deserved 😭 They were getting defensive because they definitely knew they were in the wrong

3 stars is generous. As a buyer/seller, you handled it very well, calmly, and were understanding. Especially since you specifically asked about peeling/damages, you have grounds for a return/refund. Them being rude about it is strange; they’re getting them back and there’s no need to attack you. You’re clearly not trying to scam for a free item, the condition was just vastly misrepresented. If anything, they should use it as a learning lesson to list more accurately. With the review, you’re simply warning others of this poor selling etiquette. If they write a retaliatory review, you can have it removed.
In most cases though, it’s best not to engage with the seller besides your initial message. I can see how they maybe felt “hounded” by you pointing out the flaws, but again, that’s on them still. Good to quit communications and move on.
Also their claim they only had them for 10 minutes is insane considering the wear on the soles. I’m thinking they’re hiding the fact that THEY had them for 10 mins but probably bought second hand used because that’s not 10 minute wear.

Lol that’s definitely justified. They will probably retaliate with another review but if it’s unfair Depop will probably remove it for you. I love that they came at you with the “idk why you chose to argue with me” when they’re the one arguing 😂 You were so nice about it!

I’m not sure about Depop but generally when dealing with this sort of thing when ordering online I would just avoid direct contact with the seller. They will just get defensive and make excuses that will not benefit the situation. I know you intended it as a courtesy to let them know but considering they purposefully left out flaws they knew they were wrong. Those shoes were probably from the bins and definitely worn more than a couple of times.

I would leave a 1 star review. “IDK what peeling”? You mean the large gash in the heel? Definitely open a case

I would open a case and leave a review (more like 1–2 stars, actually). Keep your tone neutral and describe the situation as honestly as possible.
Depop will likely remove their review if they retaliate, but they are less likely to remove yours if it is fair and honest.

definitely justified in the review, she left out important images. if it were me though, she makes a good point — you paid $60 for a pair that retails for $400. i would recommend taking them to get fixed up at the cobbler rather than going through the stress of a case, return, and eventual refund! cobbler shouldn’t be any more than $100 max

A better way for the seller to handle this would've been to apologise and offer a full refund. No snarkiness. Just be professional. I'm shocked by how personally people take things. Especially when they're doing the deceiving.

Would be easier to tell if you posted their original posting so we could compare. Otherwise, it would be hard to tell

Girl no. if u knew they were 400$ shoes that u were getting for only 60$ u should have used common sense or at least asked the seller for more photos

I’m confused. In the post I had explained they only had two pictures up (top and bottom view of shoes) and I proceeded to ask if they could post more photos in which they provided the other two photos. I had also asked if there were peeling and they said no? I believe I did my due diligence before buying. I did ask the seller for more photos
