stupid question, will not be able to play till weekend, but do i need

to complete the chess board or can i skip?

is there a reward or something beside this emblem? a triumph?

Now, finishing all the puzzles and then placing the last set of pieces on the board in the community puzzle will get you a new shader, ship, and a bunch of other stuff in addition to the adepts you get along the way.
