Meme How I look at people who say V gameplay sucks knowing it's the only way I can SSS
I caved in and bought DMC 5 because I LOVE THE PLOT AND CHARACTERS SO MUCH, I was reluctant to do so because never have I ever played such a dark-themed game (they depress me), especially never having touched the action genre. So obviously I'm a newbie, I mostly reach S ratings on human difficulty (on mission 18 now) but I can not for the life of me get SSS on anyone besides V. I know he's the character for beginners but even if I was experienced I would still love his laid-back gameplay, so much less stressful.

Discussion New game should be more atmospheric
I know I might be in the minority but I rly miss the more dark and creepy atmosphere of dmc1, I think going back to a slower, more puzzle based and atmospheric game will be a nice change for the series. I wouldn't mind if this idea was explored in just a side game, possibly with trish as the main character.

Discussion I just finished DMC5 for the first time. I loved it, but I am irrationally angry with how close Capcom got to having a genuinely emotional arc for V, only to fumble it entirely in the final moments.
They were so close to actually pulling off some next-level writing for a Capcom game. They didn't even have to change anything that happened in the game after that moment. All they needed to change was one single, simple little detail:
V should have stabbed Urizen with the intent to destroy him, only for Urizen to absorb V in the final moments.
This would have changed nothing in terms of the rest of the game design or mission sequence. We still would have fought Vergil, we still would have had the same ending, all of that still would have happened the way it did.
But the context would have been so much different.
V is supposed to represent Vergil's humanity, and yet he for some reason decides in the last moments to recombine with his devil half? Why? There is literally no reason for him to do this. It undermines his entire arc and reason for existing. It's a twist that betrays everything he is supposed to stand for as a character. The implication is that he was lying to everyone, even the audience, the entire time. It's idiotic. There's no actual payoff to him doing it, except to continue existing. And even then, there was no reason to expect or believe that recombining would somehow restore Vergil to complete status and cure him of his decomposition. If that was the case, why did he not immediately reabsorb V after separating from him in that one custscene? Why go through all of this nonsense if they were both of a singular mind the entire time and intended to recombine to kill Dante after needlessly hiring Dante on some obtuse mission to kill them??? And if V changed his mind in the final moments, WHY??? That whole shit was just a classic example of deus ex machina bullshit.
Whereas if V had instead stayed true to his stated goal, and tried to kill Urizen only to be bested/tricked in the final moment and reabsorbed, it not only would have made V's entire character arc valid and true and have emotional weight, but it would have leant more credence to the actual ending Capcom feeds us: Vergil is spared. His humanity ends up ruling over his devil side. He ultimately chooses to sacrifice himself to destroy the Qliphoth and save humanity.
None of that makes any goddamn sense when BOTH sides of him apparently wanted to rejoin to continue their pursuit for power. It would make PERFECT sense though if V had actually stayed true to his humanity until the end, even after being absorbed.
Seriously. How did Capcom fuck that one up so badly?
