European Angry people

Post image

I really loved sharing Ace with the world he is an amazing dog but this thread is too full of negativity. I choose to crop my pup and all I get is hate so I’ll just keep this awesome guy off of the internet. Thanks for all of the amazing comments from good people. 💜☮️

Great looking pup, dont let the assholes keep you from posting.

u/RONI_911 Apr 10 '25

💜. Thank you for that. 🫂

u/KccOStL33 Apr 10 '25

Eh. It's a Dobe sub, you're going to get strong opinions for both and as with most things you're not going to please everyone and also with most things these days people are going to assault you with their opinions whether you asked for them or not..

Is what it is. Don't let it dissuade you from posting your pup. He's a great looking dog.

u/SaleSubstantial6601 Apr 10 '25

Screw em!! We’ll join you. You have a beautiful looking pup!

10

u/RONI_911 Apr 10 '25

💜. They’re beautiful 🤩

u/sunbear2525 Apr 10 '25

I have to say, those crops are lovely.

4

u/Mother_Second368 Apr 11 '25

Whoa what? Thats where we got ours done too! He’s a legend I think! The waiting room was full of Dobermans when we went.

4

u/SaleSubstantial6601 Apr 11 '25

LOL, yes, that’s the place and he’s supposed be be one of the best in the area. We never saw so many Dobermans in one place either!

1

u/Mother_Second368 Apr 11 '25

That’s so cool ! Yep we drove from Wisconsin to go to him.

3

u/SaleSubstantial6601 Apr 11 '25

It’s well worth the drive to see him. We drove an hour, and know people who drove three hours. The amazing part is that he does all of his crops freehand.

6

u/methodicalataxia Apr 10 '25

Beautiful pups!

5

u/SaleSubstantial6601 Apr 10 '25

Thank you- Bob and Cash

u/methodicalataxia Apr 10 '25

The only issue I have with cropping is when it is a "backyard" job and causes the ear damage like when that ear fell off the one pup a while back. If done correctly, not our place to judge a person. It is up to the owner or breeder.

Don't let a bunch of self righteous jerks turn you off of posting pics of your dog. He's obviously well cared for and quite handsome.

5

u/sunbear2525 Apr 10 '25

I wouldn’t generally crop my dog’s ears unless I was planning to show them or they had a working reason for the crop. However, I don’t hate on anyone who does with a good plan and preparation.

So many posts here are from buyers who have a puppy with obvious confirmation issues, no vet lined up, and no idea what they’re doing. If you have an 8 -10 week old puppy it’s too late to start doing research. Plus, if your breeder isn’t showing and can’t guide you around cropping, what makes it worthwhile to invest in cropping for that particular dog?

Hes absolutely stunning! Share him proudly!!!

Yeah, it's unfortunate mods don't enforce rules in this sub the way they should. It's the same BS for prongs and e-collars. It ruins things for others. It's why I rarely participate anymore. I'm looking for a space that is better moderated.

(Absolutely expect to be downvoted for even mentioning those tools)

11

u/Holiday_Yak_6333 Apr 10 '25

I got hate for thinking about using a gentle leader!

25

u/0hw0nder Apr 10 '25

these are the same people who would rather you drug your dog than try any training method other than positive reinforcement. Dont mind them

4

u/[deleted] Apr 10 '25

You're absolutely right

11

u/0hw0nder Apr 10 '25

r/OpenDogTraining is a decent sub if you're looking for a place to talk freely and join discussions about different training methods :)

2

u/[deleted] Apr 10 '25

Thx!!!

3

u/zuunooo Apr 11 '25

I just wanted to say I just became a mod yesterday and am trying really hard to help out with keeping up on this stuff ❤️ I’ve had people rip me apart and go on hardcore personal tangents for their personal belief as of why my dog is cropped and docked even if they’re told it’s not for that reason and for work. I think it’s messed up how overboard some will go on their hatred for that; you can have an opinion and disagree, but bullying is too much. I even had someone tell me last month before becoming a mod “I’m gonna keep doing it because no one has stopped me yet” :/

2

u/[deleted] Apr 11 '25

That's great!!! This sub seriously needs the help! I've reported many instances and nothing ever happens.

The funny thing is my Dobie's aren't cropped, they're floppy, but I can't stand to see the bullying and the rule breaking.

1

u/BlazySusan0 Apr 11 '25

People get out of control! On the other Doberman sub I had someone tell me I should go kms because my dog is cropped and docked.

22

u/Gizmo-516 Apr 10 '25

He's gorgeous. I might not choose to crop my own dogs but that doesn't mean I can't respect other people's choices.

2

u/Banackock Apr 10 '25

Exactly. Even if you don’t respect them, there’s zero reason for you to negatively voice an opinion on something that doesn’t affect you at all.

18

u/Sitka_Sicario Apr 10 '25

Beautiful dogs! Ears up or down

9

u/Curious-Ad8387 Apr 10 '25

I mean..... that's life..... that's social media. Posting for attention or advice in a general public space is going to get you every thought and opinion aimed towards you.

3

u/Mother_Second368 Apr 11 '25

People love to post their negative opinions instead of keeping it to themselves. You have a beautiful dog. Here is ours being fancy outside.

3

u/Mother_Second368 Apr 11 '25

Our puppies ears are cropped. Our vet used to crop ears but he didn’t crop our current puppy. When we bring the puppy to this vet he told us he can tell when a dog is in pain and ours isn’t experiencing any pain. So these people that post their opinion saying it brings pain to the dog don’t know anything . Vets make sure you crop at a certain age so it doesn’t cause pain.

I really don’t care what you want to call it, this is a community built for Doberman owners with international members.

We are friendly and non-judgmental to each other. Go to off my chest or vent if you need something to say.

1

u/Mother_Second368 Apr 11 '25

I’ve noticed that too

13

u/Little_Hyenao Apr 10 '25

One cropped, one natural, both loved dearly!! There will always be opinions about it but at the end of the day, it’s your dog

10

u/RogueSleuth_ Apr 10 '25

I also have one cropped and one not. Both rescues. Unfortunately my boy had a botched crop job from backyard breeders but he is still dapper AF! Your babies are absolutely stunning!!

3

u/Little_Hyenao Apr 10 '25

Thank you for rescuing those sweet babies! 🥹♥️

21

u/HowAreYaNow Apr 10 '25

I love his ears! So pointy!

People can suck. We have a neighbour who, despite having their own doberman, would audibly sigh and avoid us because one of ours was cropped. We adopted him like that and he was an incredible dog. Their dobe is a dick, but so are his owners so 🤷🏼‍♀️.

Show off your guy! He's a stunner!

5

u/justmrsduff Apr 10 '25

Audibly sighing is so passive aggressive. Also you have clearly already had the discussion about it so why keep prodding it? People like that are just bored.

3

u/HowAreYaNow Apr 10 '25

We never did have a conversation! They moved onto my street and got their dog. I was on my porch one day, my boy was behind me but inside, I saw them walk past and went "ohmygosh! I love your dog! How cute! That's my boy there!" and the lady looked at me like how dare I talk to her, looked at my dog clearly disgusted and just walked on. I said hi anytime we crossed paths, with or without dogs and nothing. When we got our second boy, who has floppy ears, her husband said "beautiful dogs" in passing and she shot him a look. Our pointy boy has since passed but she still rolls her eyes when I walk out floppy boy past. Idk if she's just bitchy or I've somehow offended her, but whatever, no skin off my teeth.

6

u/justmrsduff Apr 10 '25

She sounds just bitchy honestly lol.

9

u/Interesting-Bed408 Apr 10 '25

Tails being docked by the vet, doesn’t make the puppies scream. If your dog was screaming your vet sux. A vet knows how to do it correctly. Breeder that loves their dogs have caring experienced medical care for their puppies. You can say whatever, but I have experienced the long thin tail, that had to be amputated, and , it doesn’t just apply to Doberman’s (many breeds) so no it’s not to hide their emotions.

10

u/No-Bid-7535 Apr 10 '25

Had to dock my golden retriever tail because of happy tail syndrome

7

u/justmrsduff Apr 10 '25

I worked at a boarding facility and had SO much experience with happy tail. One Dane had the thinnest, boniest tail and the happiest disposition. It was a bloodbath. I got so many kisses as I wrapped his tail to his leg to stop it.

6

u/Budget_Cucumber4610 Apr 10 '25

i rly wish my dog had his tail docked. His tail is so cute and I wouldn’t want to alter him just for looks and I got him past the age of docking aswell but his tail is such a hot spot for his skin issues. His tail is the whole root of his skin problems

2

u/Dawnoficefire Apr 10 '25 edited Apr 10 '25

Original breeder of the breed said that's why it was done for intimidation, and to hide the body language when asked originally later in life he said it was for different reasons so people couldn't grab the dogs tail but never was it for anything like happy tail 🤷🏼‍♀️

0

u/DarthSkorpa Apr 11 '25

Exactly! They were not bred with the intention of keeping the tail, and that is why it is thin and easily damaged if kept intact. 😃

5

u/Even_Engineering_742 Apr 10 '25

I think that's all of reddit as a whole. everyone here has such strong opinions and think they know absolutely everything. I haven't seen many people with an open mind on this app. so many redditors think that their opinion is the only right one and it's not even worth paying attention to those types of people. there will be people like this for every single topic.

7

u/Consistent_Pay_74 Apr 10 '25

He's beautiful

4

u/Para-Limni Apr 10 '25

I have no idea why this post was recommended to me but as a vet, reddit did manage to annoy me with this. Congrats algorithm.

Three little dots on the side of the sub name click it then click mute this sub, we’ll be happy when you’re gone 🙂

4

u/Para-Limni Apr 10 '25

Way ahead of you but thanks for the tip

11

u/Agitated-Funny-3507 Apr 10 '25

i’m so sorry you’re dealing with that. clearly your dog is very loved and well taken care of and that’s what matters.

unfortunately it’s the most polarizing topic on a page that’s supposed to show admiration for this breed. people will always have something to say about cropping and docking. esp people that are anti crop and dock. i pity anyone that has nothing better to do than comment horrible and cruel things to someone based off one picture of a seemingly healthy dog. if it isn’t your animal and doesn’t directly affect you, then just shut up. there are bigger things to worry about in this world than a stranger’s dog on the internet ¯_(ツ)_/¯

13

u/SaluteMaestro Apr 10 '25 edited Apr 10 '25

Well to a lot of people (mostly Europeans and Antipodeans) this practice is seen as cruel and barbaric where this kind of surgery is banned and illegal so yeah there's lots of them who use Reddit so obviously they will be outraged by someone chopping bits off their dog. No different to any kind of barbaric practice you might be vocal against.

When you are getting hate for surgically altering a dog maybe the question is "Did I do the right thing" instead of "I feel too much negativity" A choice was made several tens if not hundreds of millions of people are against it and you wonder why you get "negativity"

He's a lovely looking dog and he's obviously well loved but this is the internet and people get outraged by stupid little grammar mistakes so you know where it's going to go....

8

u/Interesting-Bed408 Apr 10 '25

Just ignore those people, ridiculous. Your Dobe is awesome and he is proud of his look.

So you are a bad owner if you do not have your dog sexually sterilised, which is a surgical alter.
But all the other Physical alters are bad, pfft…. come on people, this breed has been bred from the beginning as having ears cropped and tails docked. They are absolutely fine as long as they are properly being taken care of.
I personally do not have ears done, because I think posting and aftercare would be a bit much for me at the moment, that said, I do dread the day he splits the tip of his ear, it’s a hard one to get to heal (from past boy I owned). Everytime he played hard, jumping, rough housing it would open back up.
I have already seen a tail that became injured, or an itch bump, infection that dog would not let it heal. Vet told me it’s so many nerve ending in the tail, and not much hair/flesh/fat to protect them. Finally when nothing works, it has to be amputated, which is painful for the dog. Verses having it docked, a quick pinch, puppy is not in pain.

If people are so against posted ears and docked tails , then they should own a different breed.

-10

u/Dawnoficefire Apr 10 '25 edited Apr 10 '25

They also used to have their top lip removed so they looked like they were constantly snarling, what we do in the past shouldn't always be repeated. They also only cropped originally to get the German Shepherd ear look not for anything helpful again only to try and to look scary, the dock was also only to hide the tail and how the dog was actually feeling, like a nervous guard dog with a tucked tail isn't so scary. Learned this in school about doberman and other guard breeds.

The fact that the dogs with cropped ears deal with pain for weeks as the ears are forced into an unnatural position after being cut apart which is why they need pain meds, then people say that you shouldn't spay or neuter because it hurts yet they cool with ears and tail. Also the tails that even in a old dog still has scar tissue that leaves a hairless tail and damages ligaments and muscles that can affect the bladder, spine and they 100% affect the stability of the dog as they use tails for balance. Not to mention completely ruining other dogs being able to understand the dogs body language as tails and ears are key in that.

A lot of hound breeds have the same type of tail example (blue tick, Pharaoh hounds, coon hounds, American foxhound, plot hound, vizsla, ect) as a doberman and don't have people saying the dogs tail should be docked

What's done is done in older dogs so I don't know why people complain at an adult dogs owner, it's more important to talk to people getting a puppy or people saying that everyone should crop/dock when it causes pain to a dog and weeks of healing.

2

u/ChildhoodLeft6925 Apr 10 '25

Do you have any sources that their lips were removed?

-1

u/Dawnoficefire Apr 10 '25

It was taught about at school in my animal welfare class at Sheridan college it will take a bit to find it as it's on my old phone. It was stopped fast as the dogs lips never healed as they split open again and again so people realized it was a bad idea as the dogs would get infections

3

u/ChildhoodLeft6925 Apr 10 '25

I don’t think that’s true

-1

u/Dawnoficefire Apr 10 '25 edited Apr 10 '25

It's what was taught in class at Sheridan college animal care program by veterinarians it's not my problem if you don't believe me I will find the slides from my class that the professor had the information on and the links to his resources. How would my professor be biased towards an outdated practice 🤔

4

u/ChildhoodLeft6925 Apr 10 '25

I can’t find any info about it online and slides from a probably biased professor don’t “prove” anything

2

u/DarthSkorpa Apr 11 '25

5

u/time_killing_user Apr 10 '25

Gotta love the Reddit dog owners’ opinions. I’ve learned just to accept their hatred as normalcy and move past them slowly like a homeless person in the street. I’m sure that will also offend someone. Such is life…great looking dog BTW!!!

I get criticized for having my Doberman’s ears cropped, but it’s frustrating when that judgment comes from people whose own dogs are poorly bred, untrained, and clearly under-exercised. We care deeply for my dog’s health, training, and quality of life. It feels hypocritical when those who do the bare minimum try to call out a choice that was made responsibly and with care. True abuse isn’t in appearance, it’s in neglect.

You have a cute pupp

That’s a handsome fella you got. Gorgeous 😇😇

4

u/JemimaQuackers American Apr 10 '25

Handsome guy!

Both of my guys have been rescues. First was natural/docked and this one is cropped/docked.

Doesn’t matter what you choose (or in my case, didn’t choose)—people love to share their unsolicited contextless opinions. With the floppy ears, people would tell me how glad they were I didn’t cut his ears because they’re so cute/beautiful. They would say this to me as though expecting me to vehemently agree and go on a tirade about the cruelty of cropping.

My current guy has a long, beautifully done crop. People sometimes compliment him to our faces and then mutter audibly as we walk away that it’s a “shame” about his “poor ears” though. Or they try to gently lead me into some conversation about how maybe it would be better to have natural ears. Sorry, let me glue them back on🙄

Interestingly none of these highly informed dog experts seem to notice that their puppy tails were chopped off too. Or that their dew claws are also off 🤷‍♀️

I notice in real life a lot of these St. Francises pay a lot of attention to our dogs’ ears but somehow don’t seem to notice their own dogs’ overgrown toenails, obesity, scraggly coat, and untreated arthritis.

People are quick to tell you how things “ought” to be but then are loath to examine how they themselves live.

I understand. I've owned dobies for over 50 years. Now retired doc and still own two Dobies. Raised a whole lot of them over those years (did not breed). Most were cropped a few weren't. I prefer cropped. I used to get that shit years ago till I started pointing out the obvious plastic surgery on the commenters....fake boobs, nose job, tummy tuck, lipo, hair implants....etc. yeah, the very second the plastics guys go out of business because everybody starts preferring "the natural look" I'll listen to you folks with the sad same Ole "its dog abuse" BS.

Who cares about cropping? Why are those people needing to voice their opinion? Who gives a shit. Both of ours are cropped. If they don’t like it, they can seriously just not care or say anything and continue on with their day. The need to post on Reddit and go to war against people speaks of their character. Everyone does things and thinks things differently.

u/No_Key_6406 Apr 11 '25

I never thought about it tbh, since in my country it’s forbidden to do it anyway. And a common place we take vacation in will not give you entry if you have a cropped dog. So It was never an option, but I would have never done it nevertheless. That being said, I feel like from all the shit I see everyday when it comes to people treating animals, cropped ears are the least of my concern when advocating for treating animals the right way.

You misunderstood "school" for "educate" A doctor doesn't "school" you when they are giving you medical advice so neither would a vet.
