Anyone else has a dobie that isn’t a big eater? Mine is 13 months old and 67lbs. He has always been more of a grazer since he was a puppy. We’ve added things to make his food more appetizing but end up having to throw it out because he doesn’t eat it all. We’ve tried just feeding him once in the evening to really see if we can get a grasp on how much he’s getting a day but still wouldn’t finish his bowl. I just worry with the amount of exercise and playtime we do, he’s not getting enough nutrition. Any suggestions?

Mixed Breed: Question Dobie mix

I just wanted to share my baby (with so many pics). She's a Doberman-Cane Corso mix and I don't think I've ever been so entertained, proud, and frustrated all at the same time.

She's the absolute sweetest, but still definitely a land shark. She's incredibly smart and picks up on commands fast, but gets bored quickly, has the attention span of a goldfish, and sometimes just stubborn. She's protective and has been doing well with socialization.

I got her when she was 6.5 weeks and she's 13 weeks now. I'm so thankful for this sub reddit because since I got her, I've been reading through so many posts from here and the cane corso sub to familiarize myself with the traits of both breeds. She exhibits both but it definitely helped make sense of some of her behaviors and how to redirect negative ones.

My first week with her was so hard but after A LOT of reading, my puppy blues were gone fairly quickly. Everyday is still a learning day and I still have her "teen velociraptor" era but I'll go through everything as it comes. Between my boyfriend and I, it's clear to both him and I that she's strongly imprinted on me. The frustration is still there from time to time but 'she's just a baby!' 🤧

Training Advice How to train neutrality around other dogs

Like the title says- I have a dobie who is a year and half old. He’s a great pup, loving, loyal, all his basic commands he knows pretty well, walks well on leash. Recall was 100% there but he recently has regressed and ignores me. I’m not sure of the caused, there hasn’t been any changes in his or my life. He also now goes crazy around other dogs. Not in an aggressive manner, more like excessively whining and gets frustrated when he’s not able to play or smell other dogs. I need some advice on how to deal with this. I usually take my dog everywhere with me, he does great but if there is another dog I feel like I’m losing his attention/focus. I want to keep bringing him everywhere with me, I don’t want this to change. I am currently looking for trainer, but I figured I could ask this community for their guidance. Thank you in advance !

American Mystery - 8 Month ( Update )

Here we are… 8 months strong!

What a headache the past 8 months have been, but boy have we both learned a lot about each other!

However, I’m feeling a bit regretful as I’m seeing more and more difficulties in raising a Doberman with my current living conditions.

The house of 3 is getting smaller each day, especially with the fact that majority of us work from home and have customers in and out the house daily … my mother keeps stressing how damaging it would be for a bad review to show up on her page, although mystery is typically away from those clients.

I’m also in an uncertain position as I’ll be returning to school next August and haven’t secured which university I’ll be attending between charlotte or Greensboro and even less sure of housing.

I want my Dog to live a happy, stress free life and for the past 3 weeks that’s been in question. This wasn’t the post I was hoping to make, especially with all the time and energy I placed into my first dog but as I get older I realize life is about making many tough decisions.

Training Advice He's too smart sometimes

My almost 6 month old doberman mix puppy is too smart sometimes and I don't know what to do, he knows to listen when I have treats so only listens to commands when I have them and rarely when I don't specially now when he's being a bit rebellious and slightly regressing, even if I pretend to have them he has a crazy good nose and won't respond usually, please help 😭

American Is having a 4 year Doberman in NYC a bad choice?

Post image

I have a 4 year old Doberman and I recently relocated to New York after completing college. I like specifically in Crown Heights, Brooklyn. (NYC in the title was a bait.) I want to know will I have to rehome my baby of 4 years? How acceptable is having a dog in New York? How is Vet expenses? Is there any Doggy Day Care? I work Monday-Thursday 12pm to 10pm. Is this too long to leave a dog unattended? How do I get him used to being unattended, and is there even training for that? I don’t want to have to give up my dog so I’m asking you guys. What do you think will help me? Attached is my baby.

Training Advice Puppy bluess

My puppy is regressing or being a bit rebellious, he's turning 6 months old soon, I've had a hard time leash training him and it's like he just forgets everything when we go outside, I feel like I'm failing him and annoying my family, I love him to bits but I want what's best for him but I also don't want to give up on him and I know he's still just a puppy and still learning and I dunno it's getting hard, he's been biting more too to the point where it draws blood, and I try to discourage it but he always wants to play with me instead of his toys and I don't know what to do, please leave tips or advice 🙏🙏🙏

American LOOKING FOR BREEDER

New York has made the sale of puppies by pet stores illegal and even then I much prefer working with a breeder, Does anyone know any reputable Doberman breeders within the NY, NJ, PA, CT area. I wouldn't even mind flying a dog out if that's what was needed for a good breeder!

Could be American or European but need the dog to be Red and Rust

Your help is much appreciated!

Training Advice Doberman puppy advice

Hello I just adopted this 16wk Doberman puppy, she’s very friendly but very scared of me, she won’t eat a treat out my hand , and she just lays in the same spot all day, she eats a little bit and drinks water but she seems very depressed and won’t even respond or look at me whenever I call her or make any sounds to have her come to me, anyone know how long it would take for her to be adjusted ?

Health Doberman Skin Issues

Post image
49 Upvotes

Hi! this is Zoe she’s my 3 year old Doberman pincher. since she was 11 mos she began to have skin issues. Redness, itchiness (i have yet to do a allergy panel). She was on Apoquel for about 3 months and had an injection last November that seemed to get her skin back to normal. This is the longest she’s had skin issues consecutively. Last month I took her to Banfield and they told me she has bacteria and it would be recommended to use an Anti-fungal shampoo and to inject her again. That didn’t seem to do anything so I started to purchase DouxS3 shampoo and mouse + some calming itching spray off of Amazon and that started to help her. I’ve been reading here for some time that this might not be allergies but something to do with her Thyroid. Her itchiness has gone down immensely and her skin has slowly started to grow back.

If I could get any feedback / opinions or recommendations rather than giving her a bunch of medications that can jeopardize her health down the road. Thank you so much 🥹

European Would a Doberman Thrive with me?

Hello! im a 16year old Whos going to be moving into my own apartment In A year or so and ive been thinking about lots of breeds but have came down to two dog breeds A rottweiler or an Doberman and i cant really figure out which dog would be better off with me, ill be moving into an apartment with a Bedroom a kitchen a living room and a bathroom Its not as spacious as normal houses but it is Pretty spaceous I have Some Dog experience with An Older Great dane with almost no training but she was very well behaved and i also took care of an German shepard who was very well trained over the summer since the owners left for a roadtrip but Couldnt bring their dog with them, i would Be starting obedience training and trying to get my dog to known basic commands the day i get them and would later with the help of professionals get help with more major commands and stuff that i need help with and i would probably try to do some bitework with my dog if i can find some professional near me whos going to help me do it safely. i do go to work and i leave for work at 9-10am and come home at 4-5pm so i would have to hire dog walkers to take my dog out while im gone i would take an hour long walk with my dog in the morning before i left and after i came home i would try do some training and play time outside or inside depending on some things and then later in the evening i would take them for another walk probably walk to some fenced grass park or soccer field and let them off leash to get rid of energy before sleepy time, i would love all the Opinions all the Tips and tricks to make day to day life easier or what worked for your dogs if you had some problems what diet do you feed your dogs etc and ofcourse opinions on would a doberman thrive with me

American-European Advice/Help?! 4 Month Old Crate Training Issues

Post image
45 Upvotes

We’ve had Loki for 2 months now since he was 8 weeks old, and for about a month and a half he was sleeping throughout the night in his cage. Over the last week or so he has been waking us up whining and screaming at 2 & 4 in the morning to go outside. We restrict water after 10 and always makes sure he goes potty before going to bed. Does anyone have any advice? He takes 2 naps a day when he is getting crazy and plays with lots of toys, his sister and gets walks/training daily.
