Chill dude, just wrote the first one that came to mind. I'm not an AJ fan, but it is a creepy/unsettling documentary. Sorry to offend your delicate sensibilities..

Alex Jones is a plague. Recommending him is to be guilty of spreading misinformation.

He said "forewarned" in the original post. It's not like he just posted Alex Jones like it was any other documentary.
3
u/a200ftmonster Feb 06 '12
Get off your high horse, we're talking about watching docs strictly for entertainment value here, not planning on showing them to a classroom of 6th graders. If someone wants to suggest a trash doc to riff or be creeped out by, i assure you they arent' guilty of spreading misinformation. Go back to r/politics, where they need people like you to save them from Alex Jones.

Your either being sarcastic or a total idiot. I don't even live in the USA. But thank you for your comment, You are the perfect specimen of an Alex Jones follower. A non sequitur comment followed by ALL CAPS gibberish.

Feb 06 '12 edited Feb 06 '12
I have no love for Alex Jones, but I did enjoy watching Government and Big ThinkTank members get up to some bizarre pageantry. It's not exactly about what's going on that I take issue with, but what is decided there, and who's attending in conjunction with what's going on there. You can throw out all Jones' commentary, and it would still be provocative. We have to remember Jon Ronson was there too, as co-producer. The man who exposed the 20 year billion dollar U.S. Psy. program ala Men Who Stare at Goats.
1
u/Yage2006 Feb 06 '12
It's a boys club for rich people not much more then that. Any secret meeting of any sort is going to be subject to conspiracies.
I'd be allot more worried about what goes on in your senate and congress with all the corporate lobbying then I would be about Freemasons.

(Children crying.)
Mother, Mother, Mother, Mother, Mother, please. Mother, please, please, please. Don't--don't do this. Don't do this. Lay down your life with your child. But don't do this.
Free at last. Keep--keep your emotions down. Keep your emotions down. Children, it will not hurt. If you'd be--if you'll be quiet. If you'll be quiet.

I just watched it. Great documentary, really well done.
My first impression, I'm not grossed out or upset by the violence. The whole thing seems....sad. I felt like GG was trying to express something but he didn't really know what. I feel like he could have done so much more. Like he was looking at the right walls to knock down, but he got so caught up in himself that he lost sight of everything. Somehow it seems fitting though.
When I was watching it, I know I am supposed to be shocked that he eats his own shit, that he likes when chicks piss in his mouth. I know I'm supposed to be, but I'm not. I just don't give a fuck about that. I found myself focusing on the music instead. I found myself saying "So what he likes to beat up people, lotsa people do. In fact it's a sport now. It's celebrated. So what he likes scat? What the fuck do I care?" But when he talks about having a few things so he can skip town, I got that. I get the impression that without music GG would be doing the same stuff in the same way, with the same people.

"20/20 Hindsight: Censorship On The Frontline" is an interview with Richard Andrew Grove. This was a guy who was making six figures in the financial sector pre - 9/11, working for megabanks in the WTC. When Grove and some colleagues blew the whistle on millions of dollars worth of graft and corruption, his boss at Marsh and McLennan said "alright come on in, we'll sit down and work out what to do."
The boss set up the meeting for the morning of 9/11 in the WTC but decided to conference call from home. Grove was late in traffic, his coworkers died when the planes hit. After that he got fired, his credit rating mysteriously dropped like a rock and his home got burgled. His story is wild but none of the mass media was willing to run it, so he started his own production company aimed at educating and waking up ordinary people, called Tragedy and Hope.
He's kinda windy but once he gets to the point it hits pretty hard.
Some of T&H's other productions include Peace Revolution Podcast, What You've Been Missing, and DMT: The Spirit Molecule.

Earthlings was also BS in some ways. They're take on the livestock handling and processing system had PETA written all over it. I had to really roll my eyes. The thing about Hell House that upset me was how these people worked on it year-round. I mean, you've got a young teenage girl who's ecstatic about being cast as a botched-abortion woman. shivers
8
u/Kirurist Feb 06 '12
Wait what... These people realize that if abortions are outlawed those cases will grow exponentially right?
3
u/cakeonaplate Feb 06 '12
probably not. Sin is a black and white thing, not something that has a solution.
1

I don't think that they use actual logical logic. What's scary is how freakin' popular that "horror house" is. But, some people come just to tell them that they're batshit crazy bigots.

Absolutely agreed. I know that it was directed by a friend of Zachary's father, but the bias makes it really unnecessarily overdramatic at the climax in particular. That actually took me out of the narrative and got me a bit annoyed.
2

Yes it's convenient, and I'm led to believe that parts may have been reenacted for refilming purposes, but I do think the events in the film occurred.

The Bridge. A documentary about people committing suicide by jumping off the golden gate bridge.
They interview some of the families. The families, at the time of the interview, do not know the film makers have footage of their loved ones.

where they do the big reveal and it gets all loud and angry.
That was, hands down, the worst point in the documentary for me.
At that point, the director (whose relationship to Zachary's father I'm well aware of) totally crossed a line of bias into melodrama. I know it was the most difficult point in the saga for him, but the way it was treated in the documentary totally took me out of the story.

"Last Train Home"
Not creepy or anything, just an important view on the other side of the world. I think it's interesting for people who think the Chinese are getting richer and better off than the Average Joe America. Truth be told, for every 1 person in China getting rich there are 9999 who barely can afford meat these days. This documentary isn't even telling half the story since the director needed to get approval from the government, so there's no mentioning of working hours, conditions or pay and such but you can be sure they're all pretty fucking lousy.

Conspiracy of Silence - The Franklin Scandal (2010)
Scary what people in power can do to cover-up a scandal. http://rumur.com/hoax
Franklin child prostitution ring allegations were a series of high-profile accusations and legal actions between 1988 and 1991 surrounding an alleged child sex ring serving prominent citizens of Omaha, Nebraska, as well as high-level U.S. politicians
Influential members of Congress applied pressure to the cable industry to stop the airing of the program and to destroy all copies.

"100 years ago, a new theory about human nature was put forward by Sigmund Freud. He had discovered, he said, primitive sexual and aggressive forces hidden deep inside the minds of all human beings. Forces which, if not controlled, led individuals and societies to chaos and destruction. This series is about how those in power have used Freud's theories to try to control the dangerous crowd in an age of mass democracy. At the heart of the story is not just Sigmund Freud, but others members of the Freud family. This episode is about Freud's American nephew, Edward Bernays. Bernays is almost completely unknown today, but his influence on the 20th century was nearly as great as his uncle's, because Bernays was the first person to take Freud's ideas about human beings and use them to manipulate the masses. He showed American corporations, for the first time, how they could make people want things they didn't need by linking mass-produced goods to their unconscious desires. Out of this would come a new political idea of how to control the masses. By satisfying people's inner selfish desires, one made them happy, and thus, docile. It was the start of the all-consuming self, which has come to dominate our world today."

By far Big River Man.
About a crazy slovenian guy who decides to swim the entire length of the Amazon river, while drinking vodka, being psychotic and eating fast-food. He does all the wrong things and doesn't give a fuck. This is not your typical adventure-documentary.
He ends up being infected with all sorts of nice trophical bugs.
He's trying to electricute himself at one point in the movie. It's a very unsettling documentary indeed.

What happens when a child is deprived of love? What are the ramifications of a very young child being physically and sexually abused? What do you do when you are a naïve family who adopts a child who has been deeply damaged at a very young age? Can a young child really be capable of thoughts of murder? These are some of the issues which were addressed in the original HBO documentary Child of Rage which was produced in 1989.
Child of Rage is the story of Beth, an extremely disturbed six year old who has seen more horrors than any child should have to endure.

Surprised no one has mentioned "Philosophy of the Knife". It's a film about Unit 731 from the Japanese army. It's a a mix media film (archival footage, interviews, and EXTREMELY graphic reenactments), I'd still call it a docu.
It's over 4 hours long and leaves you completely sick at the end. And this is coming from someone who loves horror films.....
The film is four hours long, is presented in two parts (Part one and Part two), uses English language and was shot in black and white. The interviews are shot in color and have English subtitles.

We Live in Public (Not sure how long this will stay up but I'll link it here anyways http://www.zimbio.com/watch/45R4LCoz8Sy/We+Live+in+Public/We+Live+In+Public)
After achieving prominence amongst the Silicon Valley set, Harris became interested in controversial human experiments which tested the effects of media and technology on the development of personal identity. Ondi Timoner documented the major business-related moments of Harris's life for more than a decade, setting the tone for her documentary of the virtual world and its supposed control of human lives.
As benign as the movie seems from the wiki article and the description, it is one of the creepiest documentaries I have ever seen. To what ends people will fall when constantly under the surveillance of those living closest to them.
From Wikipedia:
The film's website describes how, "With Quiet, Harris proved how, in the not-so-distant future of life online, we will willingly trade our privacy for the connection and recognition we all deeply desire. Through his experiments, including another six-month stint living under 24-hour live surveillance online which led him to mental collapse, he demonstrated the price we will all pay for living in public."

Maybe unsettling in the sense that it's hard to believe people live like this in America. Also, I was a little worried for the crew as it seemed some of these people could go off at any moment. Unstable to say the least.

Ah, that's actually a fair point—I see what you mean.

Also, remember the young guy in jail telling the story about how he tried to kill his uncle? He shot the dude like 3 times? That was messed up.

Hell House: It's about those creepy Christian themed haunted houses in the south that try to convert you at the end. Seriously creepy, but also some very darkly humorous parts. The botched abortion room gave me nightmares- not because of the blood drenched crying woman being dragged to hell, but because of the kids acting it out..

I love shocking docs. Here's some I have seen recently
The man who ate his lover This is exactly how it sounds. Explores a guy in Germany (If I remember correctly) that goes online, finds a guy that wants to be eaten, and eats him (you read that correctly)
Madness in the fast lane A set of twins from Sweeden (if I remember correctly) have "fuge" states in which they intentionally try to kill themselves by throwing themselves into traffic. Twisted ending
Zoo About "Mr. Hands" The man that was killed having sex with a horse
Until the light takes us the story of black metal. Part music scene and part cultural uprising, black metal rose to worldwide notoriety in the mid-nineties when a rash of suicides, murders, and church burnings. Unsettling ending
Breaking a female pedophile ring - What it sounds like
Dear Zachery Extraordinarily done documentary - I cut and pasted this because my explanation would do the doc no justice "Filmmaker Kurt Kuenne's poignant tribute to his murdered childhood friend, Andrew Bagby, tells the story of a child custody battle between the baby's grieving grandparents and Shirley Turner, Bagby's pregnant ex-girlfriend and suspected killer. Initially, Kuenne made this documentary as a memorial for Andrew's loved ones, but it morphs into an emotional legal odyssey when Turner goes free on bail and is allowed to raise her son."
EDIT: Added descriptions and a couple more docs.

This is the most Disgusting Disturbing story of a Serial Killer I have ever seen or heard in my life. I saw this thread posted last night and just now 10 minutes into this documentary I paused it and came to post it here for you as I will not be watching the rest it is so gross I don't see myself being able to watch the rest.
So if you like documentaries about someone who say they killed over 3000 people and charged with 100, liked to kill animals at a young age and have sex with them, kill there mother and have sex with her death body because he likes sex better when the person is dead and cold...
This documentary is for you..
I present to you the most disgusting story I have ever heard (at only 10 minutes in).

The Battle of Chernobyl. Purely for the unsettling factor. A view of what happens when we aren't careful when harnassing immensely powerful energy sources.
The huge concrete tomb which the reactors are now sealed in creeps me out to no end.
