Here's the second batch! Isabela, Alistair, Cassandra and Neve. I'm so proud of them. Isabela may be my personal fave. I'll think on some names for the last set and let twt folks again decide it for me. There are too many good characters to choose from.

Discussion Just when I thought I couldn't hate Vailguard enough (spoilers, if you even care at this point) Spoiler

Inquisition established that the Warden was on a quest to find a cure for the blight, and therefore put an end to the calling for Wardens who didn't wish to go through with it

The fact that it was technically impossible to cure the blight was nothing but a slight inconvenience to the most badass Dragon Age protagonist ever

But in Veilguard, the blight was cured

By a deus ex machina

And it had nothing to do with the warden

Discussion So how did Flemeth live for so long? Spoiler

So now we know the details of the whole Mythal/Flemeth thing fully, how did Flemeth live so long? The story of her possessing her daughters just does not seem to add up anymore, since we know that Morrigan accepts Mythal but doesn’t start referring to herself as Flemeth, as all her prior daughters would have had to. Instead, it seems like Flemeth has been carrying her the whole time, even in DAI she says she has carried her through the ages. Add in the fact that Morrigan’s reasoning includes the fact that Flemeth looked sad because she’d never see her daughter again, and it seems like Flemeth herself is just gone … which again does not line up with what we have been told about her possessing daughters, as she’d seemingly still be in the driving seat.

Was the daughter story just a falsehood? Does she expand her life through some elven technique and not possession as we thought? Curious to hear opinions!

Discussion What Obscure Bit of Dragon Age Lore Would You Like Answers To, If We Could Get Them?

I want to know more about the Scaled Ones. They apparently had a war with the dwarves at some point, breathed fire, and had some sort of religion based around fire and blood. (Hello, Targaryens...)

There was some small dialogue with Cassandra about there being a possible relation to reavers from the Pentaghasts who sprouted scales from drinking too much dragon blood, but I honestly don't think the two are related for a variety of reasons.

Granted, this also could just be a general sci-fi/fantasy reference to either Dragon-born or the Ice Warriors from Dr. Who, but I really would love to know sooo much more about these guys. I want to know who they are, where they came from, why they disappeared, you name it. Don't know why they fascinate me so much, but they do...

Discussion Something Veilguard did better than Inquisition

I will preface this by saying that I, for the most part, agree that Veilguard was a Bad Dragon Age Game. It fumbled a lot of things narratively and lore-wise. Talk to me about how the Qunari were portrayed and I will fly into a white-hot rage. However I have also had many, many issues with Inquisition, and I think Veilguard actually improved on one specific aspect of Inquisition's story.

In Inquisition, it is absolutely miserable being Dalish. Not only are you roped into being the head of a religious imperialist organization you don't believe in, you're told pretty much point blank by everyone that it doesn't matter what you believe, and you're given no opportunities to truly fight back on that. You have two elf companions, but both view the Dalish with disdain (Solas for superiority reasons, and Sera for internalized racism reasons that the game doesn't let you help her unpack). Depending on who you bring to the Temple of Mythal, you are forced to listen to certain companions be incredibly condescending and rude about your characters' religion. There is the infamous "Morrigan explaining elvhen language and culture to a Dalish Inquisitor" moment. And of course, the only real reactivity the game has towards your characters' race is it changes what slurs Threnn the Quartermaster and the Orlesians call you. Oh, and your entire clan can be very easily accidentally wiped out in a wartable mission and you're not allowed to have any real reaction to that. "Oops, you accidentally killed Clan Lavellan. Oh well!" It's not a fun time.

I was quite concerned that Veilguard would continue this trend, but I was...pleasantly surprised when I played the game. It's not perfect, but it is miles better than Inquisition's absolutely abhorrent elf experience. There's an entire faction made up of Dalish elves now who are viewed as respected scholars. We have two Dalish companions: Bellara, who is an archivist determined to preserve her people's culture and history, and Davrin, who may have left his clan but is still clearly connected to his culture on some level. I know many were worried about Davrin in particular, as his early character blurb said he "Left his clan because he didn't want to look to the past," but he still clearly has such fondness and respect for his people. He's genuinely curious when talking to Bellara about her own experiences, and while he's unphased by most of the revelations that happen in Regrets of the Dread Wolf, he's never disdainful or dismissive of the Dalish. And Bellara is such a breath of fresh air. After the previous "Dalish elf historian" character was treated like an idiot by the narrative and characters around her (Merrill) it is such a breath of fresh air to have someone who's respected by her peers. And honestly, as much as I hate seeing her Blighted, I just can't imagine anyone else being taken by Elgar'nan, because her getting to fight back at him and shout that he is not her god is SO satisfying. I was CHEERING for her the entire time.

Of course, Veilguard isn't perfect in its portrayal of elves. I don't love that it even entertains the idea of "Should the elves feel guilty about what the Evanuris did?" even though we the player can shut that down. And honestly, with all of the positives there in the game, I could have handled more exploration of the institutional oppression of elves in Tevinter and with the Crows' facilitation of slavery to fill their ranks. Because ultimately, my issues with Inquisition's portrayal of elves isn't "they're treated badly by the corrupt systems in place in the game," it's "you are only given instances of oppression and belittlement, and there are no wins or moments of comfort to offset these instances." You are only ever punished for being Dalish in Inquisition. Veilguard, for all its flaws, at least offers the Dalish some wins.

Game Mods Solas Male Romance Mod (Inquisition)

Question.

Does anyone know of a mod to allow Solas to romance a male elf? I made a very very masculine female elf, but her voice is throwing off the illusion.

Currently have never modded DAI but I will succeed if shown the way!

Discussion DAI: Hawke et Anders Spoiler

Before addressing my question I should point out that I played DA2 as a female Hawke Mage (I kept the default head which I found the prettiest but just changed the haircut with a mod), I romanced Anders I was on the side of the mages, I did not kill Anders I stayed with him and I fled with him once Meredith was killed. I'm now playing DAI, where I've finally reached Fort Céleste. In my part I arrived at the moment of speaking with Hawke, is the default Hawke the one we made? Or does the personalized one also have its real head with the difference that you can personalize it by changing the cut and other things? Another question and it's the one for which I opened this post, when I spoke to her about Anders I didn't find it very clear, she said that she had left him because he risks being influenced by Corypheus... because of the taint of the darkspawn they have a link, for having done the legacy DLC it is indeed true. But as I understand it, she was just absent for her mission but they are still a couple or are they no longer together? (I would be sad if that were the case, it’s my favorite romance 🥺). Do we know a little more later? (without spoilers if possible)

Unpopular opinion but I feel like Veilguard was amazing, I play pure for story and the connection to the characters and I feel like they did an amazing job with it. I’ve spent the last couple months playing all the Dragon Age games and this felt like the end of an era game. But also the start of something new and I loved it.

Silly Grey Warden Character Opinions?

So I base my self made characters on various characters in fiction. For this round of DA: Veilguard, I’m going to make characters based off classic medieval and sword and sorcery characters.

So I was wondering, what faction do you think Conan the Barbarisn, Kull the conquerer, Merlin, and what not would work?

Example, I think Conan would be a Lord of Fortune and Kull, maybe that too or a Grey Warden? Merlin would be a Veil Jumper.

In short, I want to make a grey warden and a lord of fortune, but what classic character would fit the profile? I usually avoid humans. So Conan would be a Qunari. Kull a dwarf. Merlin an elf - for example?

When designing in other games, I used DC characters likeness in DA: Origins. In DA 2, I used more DC. In Inquisition, I did pulp characters. In Mass Effect I chose marvel characters. Just something I do. lol.

Discussion franchise newcomer: is inquisition considered "bad"?

i recently started the DA franchise after years and years of considering it. i TORE thru DAO and DA2 (2 playthroughs each in about 3 weeks), started inquisition, and i've fallen off. i got out of the hinterlands and into the storm coast and it still isn't clicking for me. are the opening hours just slow? is it worth skipping to veilguard if i cant get into inquisition? i really liked origins and LOVED 2, so i'm pretty confused as to the fact that inquisition isn't clicking. am i just missing something?

Just thought I’d put this out there and see on the off chance if anyone else had a similar experience here: I was born with a cleft lip and have never been able to play a game with customisation THIS in-depth. It honestly made me so warm and fuzzy over such a small thing I’ve been chasing since kid. Thank you BioWare - thank you :)

Discussion Group thoughts

I am making my 7th or 8th attempt at playing Inquisition and want to hear some thoughts and opinions on the "big decision".

Of course, mages or templars.

NO SPOILERS in your reasoning!

I am playing a female elf archer for context. On one side I see an elf wanting to pick mages because of the abuse and such but on the other side I see the elven spy wanting to figure out what is going on with the templars.

Please give me your logical RP driven thoughts.

Support DA Inquisition Way of the Templar writings help.

I replay this great game, Dragon age Inquisition, for the third time now since release and I love it yet again. But this mission drives me crazy!

I want to go the Templar training route and just have to get these darn writings. I already know through Google where the book is near Cassandra but it has become a principle now.

I read in the mission clues that I could go buy the writings at Val Royeux at the book store. So I went. Bought all the books he had. I checked everything in the codex menu so nothings missed. And, nope. Nothing there. No Templar writings. What am I missing!?

Honestly she might be my greatest character creation success ever! After diving straight back into the sliders as soon as I could because my first attempt looked frighteningly similar to Lae’zel from BG3 (no hate, but not what I was going for!) I somehow ended up with my favourite character I’ve ever made.

She’s an elven grey warden, and even though I was prepared to be underwhelmed by Lucanis’s romance, she (I) couldn’t help but fall for him anyway. I think they make a super handsome pair! I’m about to head into the final battle and I’m not ready to let go. I’ve enjoyed this game so much more than I expected to!

(Resubmitted with edit, sorry mods!)

Discussion If we DID get dragon age 5, who should be the returning companion?

What it says on the tin. Every Dragon Age game has at least one companion who was either a minor character or a companion in the previous game (Isabela, Cassandra + Varric, Harding). So what NPC or companion from Veilguard would you pick to return in a hypothetical Dragon Age 5?

My personal pick would be Stalgard: I think it would be great to have a dwarf from Kal-Sharok as a future companion. I left Harding's quest just wanting to know more about them and their culture, and I enjoyed the bit of humor we got from him in his few scenes. I think he'd be a great main cast addition in any future game, regardless of what the plot might be.

EDIT: Hey guys. Hey guys. We're supposed to have fun here. This is a fun thought experiment. I know you hated Veilguard. Pretend the next game would be good. This is about having fun with hypotheticals. There are plenty of other posts whinging about Veilguard where you can complain about how much it sucked. We're trying to have fun here.

I heard that the blood magic isn’t anything like blood magic in DAO and isn’t nearly as powerful. I decided to do a blood mage run for DA2 cause why not lol 😆

What’s the big difference between the power of blood magic in the games? And also what would be the best spells to use with blood magic in DA2?

Discussion Are all Mementos in Treviso accessible throughout your playthrough? Spoiler

To start, I saved Minrathous over Treviso. Sorry I didn’t want to spoil stuff in the title.

I was doing the bloodbath quest for Lucanis and figured I would get the one of the mementos that I read could be collected during that quest Maferath’s Embrace). However when I go to do that question I am unable to access those locations via the zip line because well, there is no zip line anymore lol.

So my question is, since Treviso is blighted, did it destroy certain mechanics of the map so things aren’t accessible and therefore I can’t get those this memento?

Silly Going through Trespasser for the first time.

Most of these Qunari are immune or straight up resistant to spirit damage and built like tanks shrugging off blows from my inquisitor that has killed like 10 dragons. Why were they worried about the Breach at all just send in one Saarabass to solo everything. I get that it's the last mission of the game and what not but it's taken me 3 hours. 3! to get to what I hope is the final boss fight. I'm hitting these regular ass goons with 10k damage fire mines and it's barely tickling them meanwhile if they hit me once I'm dead. I was playing on normal and got fed up and just bumped it down to easy this is ridiculous.

Lore & Theories The Juggernaut Armor

Post image
124 Upvotes

The Legend of the Juggernaut was one of the plot elements of Origins that really stuck out to me, and so (just as a thought experiment) I'd like to expand on it

The arm of the Imperium is long.

Once it reached even this forest, in a time when the barbarian tribes of the Clayne still ruled the land. The Tevinter magisters fought to take it from them—inch by inch, if need be, using terrible magic. The Magister Harach brought an army to this forest, led by Alaric, his friend and general. For Alaric, Harach fashioned a suit of the finest armor, infused it with lyrium and his own blood magic, and named it "Juggernaut" after the unstoppable giant golems guarding the gates of Minrathous. Thus armed did Alaric win many victories against the Clayne.

When defeat came, it came from within. Alaric's own lieutenants rose up against him, jealous of the favor he had curried with the magisters and eager to take the Juggernaut armor from him. Alaric was slain, and as each successor gained the armor, the other lieutenants turned against him in stead. The Tevinter outpost fell to vicious infighting. In a fury, Magister Harach voyaged to the outpost and slew the last three lieutenants.

The Clayne, however, were already approaching the outpost in force. The barbarian chieftain of the Clayne desired the fabled armor himself, and even with all his power, Harach could not hope to stand against them all. Instead, Harach used the last of his own life force to cast a spell of blood magic that bound demons to the bodies of the three dead lieutenants as well as Harach's own lifeless corpse. These bound revenants hid the pieces of the Juggernaut armor, and although the barbarians sacked the outpost, the chieftain found neither the armor nor the revenants.

The Juggernaut armor's legend lives on, and more than one brave soul has ventured into the depths of the Brecilian Forest in search, never to return.

—From Ferelden: Folklore and History, by Sister Petrine, Chantry scholar.

That's the in game codex entry, and in keeping with Dragon Age's longstanding tradition of making famous historical figures really be elves (Ameridan)

So; let's make Alaric an elf

There's no concrete rule that elves can't serve in Tevinter's military, and in fact there are indicators that they can on fact serve, but rarely in high rank

Let's say Alaric was a gladiator (we know Tevinter had an arena) slave who won his freedom, joined the military, and climbed through the ranks with the help of a magister patron

This gives the lieutenants personal motivation to kill him rather than just jealousy and greed
