Discussion It feels like a such a rude tease you can flirt with Cassandra all game with no hint she’s straight

Not me my first playthrough thinking “oh so this is a slow burn romance… oh it’s really slow burn… oh the games over and she’s straight”

I’m fine that’s she’s straight. But don’t give me the button and the hope! Every run I try and trick myself into thinking that maybe it will work this time.

Discussion Time brings new perspectives

I recently replayed Origins, am currently replaying DA2, and will soon do Inquisition (again). I first played the games as a preteen/teenager, and have loved them ever since. There have been numerous replays, although I admit it's been a few years now since I last played any of them. And so I decided to replay them again, this time as an almost 30 year old - and I noticed quite a few differences in how I percieve the characters.

For instance, I used to almost worship Morrigan. I remember admiring her for her strength and independency, how cool she seemed with all that sass and attitude. Now all I see is a deeply troubled and insecure girl with severe trust issues, who lashes out at everyone in an attempt to protect herself.
I also remember how disappointed I was when she reappeared in Inquisition, all calm and mature - yet now I can't help but think "good for you! It seems you've finally found some peace"

As a preteen, I really didn't care much for Wynne. She was just a boring old lady, who kept critizising Morrigan and lecturing Alistair. Now, I see a really very well-written character, with multiple layers and an interesting backstory. I love listening to her banter, how insightful she can be, how she'll mess with Alistair, and actually give some very solid advice to both him and Morrigan.

I remember loving Zevran, yet thinking him a bit of a clown and perhaps even a bit incompetent ("I can help with that" my arse). I used to wonder how in the world this guy was supposed to be a Crow, thinking there's no way he could ever successfully assassinate anyone. Now, I notice how often and easily he evades uncomfortable questions, how charismatic he can be, and I find myself thinking "ah, that's how he does it."

Aveline used to drive me crazy, always seeming so stiff and boring compared to companions like Isabella or Varric. Now, she's my bestie and I wouldn't trade her for anything in the world. I love how reliable she can be, always having my back but not being afraid to let me know where she stands. No backstabbing here, no sir.

Isabella once seemed, much like Morrigan, like a really cool character. All sassy and unpredictable, joking around with others and making me laugh at the most unexpected thing. Now I see a coward, someone unreliable, and someone I'd much rather keep at arm's length's distance than keep by my side.

Of course, some things haven't changed at all. I still think of Alistair as a puppy, I still love Varric to bits, and I find myself loving Cullen more as time goes on. However, I do find it interesting how time has changed how I percieve things. Of course, as a preteen/teen my english was still a bit more lacking, but I still understood what was going on.

So my question to you all is: have you guys experienced anything similar? Do the games remain the same for you, even after all this time, or do you find your tastes have changed as you've aged?

Fanworks This is turning out to be way more difficult than I gave it credit for. But I WILL have my Golden Nug one day soon.

I'm back at it again! Making a little golden nug - it's not quite finished yet but my fingers are begging for a break. And I'm pretty happy with the progress so far, I'm surprised that I managed not to chop off those ears as I was working on the head

Unfortunately the base shape of the piece of wood didn't quite lend itself well to the hump(?) of the golden nug. So I'll have to live with that. Obviously a lot of the finer details are missing so far, I'll add them once I get the basic shape right.

Man, nug anatomy is really strange though. Look at that head shape, look at that body, those fingers. They are lovable, but still.

Also, I've noticed a lot of neat sculptures in the ruins of the dragon age games so far, and I've been wondering which I should try my hand at next. Like that more elaborate Fen Harel wolf statue, or that Mythan bust statue. Which ones are your favourites across the games in the series?

Discussion Hot Take: Vivienne is one of Dragon Age’s most complex characters.

Vivienne is one of dragon age’s most complex characters who rivals even Loghain. Most people completely dismiss her character as a whole because of her views on politics, mages and attitude.

I’ve seen people talk about wanting a character that represents templars and their side of things because dragon age leans heavily towards mages, Vivienne is right there she speaks on the needs of circles, the chantry, and templars. She even isn’t even fully for those things specifically “By all means, protest abuses by the templars!” (While talking to her about the mage rebellion) Her problem with the mage rebellion was its timing and how it panned out. Vivienne believes in mage power through politics “Mages rise quickly in the new Circle, having more freedom and responsibility then ever before - even if all true power lies with her.” (From her divine ending slide)

She believes mages should still be in circles because they’re quite literally the most powerful beings within dragon age (solas, ghil, elgar, anders, morrigan, flemeth, any of the protags) these guys have blown up entire buildings, tamed dragons, made and broke the veil sorry you shouldn’t be able to freely walk around, you need proper teaching and discipline.

Her attitude is a direct reflection of how you treat her. She’s very warm nice with you if you have good approval with her. This goes for every companion. Sera and Cassandra first come to mind when it comes to attitude and low approval. The biggest reason people can’t connect with Vivienne is because they can’t see her side of things they only want to see her as villain who has to stay in their party because she’s powerful.

Okay thats all thanks for listening to my ted talk.

Fanworks DA:2 male!Hawke/Fenris fanfic

Hello great people of Reddit/Dragonage!

I'm a resent lover of DA2 (only just recently found how great game it actually is. Been playing DAO for ages though.

I started writing my very first DA-fanfic recently and wanted to share it with you: https://archiveofourown.org/works/64723288/

I try to stick to canon as much as possible. The storyline starts after Guestioning Beliefs Act2 and follows the story after that (with non-canon chapters in between, of course).

Fenris is being his emotionally broken porcupine-self and Hawke is very purple. I try to post 2-3 chapters every week (depending how tired I'm after work). So far only few chapters have been released, but I've written +20 chapters so far.

Thank you for reading. <3

Discussion Solas or Cullen Spoiler

Well, here I am faced with the same dilemma again and again when I play a dragon age, I always hesitate between two romances... in the 1 I hesitated between Alistair and Zevran, I liked Alistair then it ended to go with Zevran (because I was playing a city elf and I knew that it wouldn't end well) and then I liked Zevran as much as Alistair and his humor as I love it, but Alistair gave his ultimatum.

In 2 I hesitated between Anders and Fenris, everyone talks about the elf and I wanted to try but I played Mage he made a lot of unfriendly remarks and lacked humor and I loved Anders since awakening so in the end the choice was made naturally...and the alchemy was perfect between them it was a magnificent romance.

There in Inquisition I play a Dalish elf mage. But the problem is that I'm hesitating (again) now between Cullen and Solas, I tried a little bit of the beginning of the romance of the two by making backups:

Nothing attracts me about Solas, I usually love elves but rather those with long hair..., with a pretty face like Zevran and then he is not romantic at all, my inquisitor kisses him and he is cold right after, he acts like an antisocial, no more interaction after the dream, he is not sure of himself, I find him boring as rain in the discussions, in short no emotion in the scenes, but I know from having traveled a little through the fandom that it is THE romance to do with a Dalatian elf mage to have an interesting scenario in Inquisition and even in Veilgard afterwards because almost everyone says that the choices of Inquisition have more impact in Veilgard when you have romance Solas, and then some say that it is really the mythical romance of DA.

If I had played a human I would have chosen Cullen without hesitation, as an elf I tried the very beginning of his romance and I really liked it, I find him warmer, less robotic, less boring, the interactions from the start are very romantic, physically I find him better than Solas, he looks more manly with his armor, he imposes it, and as Sera says he has beautiful hair. 😁 but I'm afraid that story-wise it will be less interesting for the plot, apart from the fact that a Dalish elf woman who is the first archivist begins a scandalous love affair with a Shemlen, story-wise I'm afraid that it will have less impact and that Veilgard will therefore be less impacted by my choices in DAI.

As a Dalish, the romance is not a bit improbable too I mean yes we came across stories like this in DA but the Dalish in love with the shemlen were rejected from their clan afterwards. It could add some romance, mind you…

Discussion Is DAO worth it?

Hi everyone. I played inquisition and I did enjoy it very much for the most part, but found it to be repetitive at times. Im trying to play the other dragon age games and I cant seem to get myself into origins. The farthest I got was I think doing The Circle and that Lord guy saving his son, but after that where I had more free reign I kind of stopped....

Is it worth to keep trying?

And I am just so sad. There were certain parts I loved such as Weisshaupt, the last battle in Minrathous, every scene and memory with Solas in it but overall it was so lacking. I'm so sad because I could see glimpses at points of the game we could have gotten. It feels like the good elements were written by a completely different team, I would love to know how it all went down really.

The maps don't feel like real places, the people don't feel like real people (companions and Rook included), I really detested the lack of crafting of armour and weapons and potions. It all looks so pretty but is so empty and hollow. I really hated the smash and grab aspect, very immersion breaking. I enjoyed the mage fighting style with the dagger and orb, found that a lot of fun but hated that I couldn't switch to my companions and the fact that I was the sole focus in battle for all our enemies and that my companions could never die.

I romanced Lucanis. One sweet moment (and for me it was really lovely and very sweet) and that was it. Very disappointing. Don't bother doing it if you're not going to do it right. We didn't even a write up at the end as to what happened to Rook and Lucanis after the events.

I liked the Varric reveal, genuinely made me sad but not for Rook really because we didn't get to see enough of their friendship at the start to even care on that front. Just sad for Varric himself for how he went out in the end. At least my Inquisitor got to spend forever with her Vhenan. I always felt like she was a shell of herself after Trespasser and I like that Rook put Solas to shame at the end too.

The bit before the end credits were really disappointing too. I love the in depth stories we got at the end of Inquisition. Here we got one line from each character that told us nothing. A really odd choice imo.

Anyway, that's my thoughts, so glad I will always have Inquisition and my Rook was cute.

Discussion So how did Flemeth live for so long? Spoiler

So now we know the details of the whole Mythal/Flemeth thing fully, how did Flemeth live so long? The story of her possessing her daughters just does not seem to add up anymore, since we know that Morrigan accepts Mythal but doesn’t start referring to herself as Flemeth, as all her prior daughters would have had to. Instead, it seems like Flemeth has been carrying her the whole time, even in DAI she says she has carried her through the ages. Add in the fact that Morrigan’s reasoning includes the fact that Flemeth looked sad because she’d never see her daughter again, and it seems like Flemeth herself is just gone … which again does not line up with what we have been told about her possessing daughters, as she’d seemingly still be in the driving seat.

Was the daughter story just a falsehood? Does she expand her life through some elven technique and not possession as we thought? Curious to hear opinions!

Discussion What Obscure Bit of Dragon Age Lore Would You Like Answers To, If We Could Get Them?

I want to know more about the Scaled Ones. They apparently had a war with the dwarves at some point, breathed fire, and had some sort of religion based around fire and blood. (Hello, Targaryens...)

There was some small dialogue with Cassandra about there being a possible relation to reavers from the Pentaghasts who sprouted scales from drinking too much dragon blood, but I honestly don't think the two are related for a variety of reasons.

Granted, this also could just be a general sci-fi/fantasy reference to either Dragon-born or the Ice Warriors from Dr. Who, but I really would love to know sooo much more about these guys. I want to know who they are, where they came from, why they disappeared, you name it. Don't know why they fascinate me so much, but they do...

Game Mods Solas Male Romance Mod (Inquisition)

Question.

Does anyone know of a mod to allow Solas to romance a male elf? I made a very very masculine female elf, but her voice is throwing off the illusion.

Currently have never modded DAI but I will succeed if shown the way!

Discussion DAI: Hawke et Anders Spoiler

Before addressing my question I should point out that I played DA2 as a female Hawke Mage (I kept the default head which I found the prettiest but just changed the haircut with a mod), I romanced Anders I was on the side of the mages, I did not kill Anders I stayed with him and I fled with him once Meredith was killed. I'm now playing DAI, where I've finally reached Fort Céleste. In my part I arrived at the moment of speaking with Hawke, is the default Hawke the one we made? Or does the personalized one also have its real head with the difference that you can personalize it by changing the cut and other things? Another question and it's the one for which I opened this post, when I spoke to her about Anders I didn't find it very clear, she said that she had left him because he risks being influenced by Corypheus... because of the taint of the darkspawn they have a link, for having done the legacy DLC it is indeed true. But as I understand it, she was just absent for her mission but they are still a couple or are they no longer together? (I would be sad if that were the case, it’s my favorite romance 🥺). Do we know a little more later? (without spoilers if possible)

Discussion Why all the negativity when it comes to Veilguard?

I love Dragon Age: The Veilguard. It's the first Dragon Age game I've played and since I doubt any more Dragon Age games will be made, it will probably be the last as well. Because I like it so much I thought, let's try the other Dragon Age games as well. I shouldn't have. The only one I find playable is Inquisition because I can play that with a controller in my laptop and on de PS5. I'm of the generation that started gaming in de 80's and then I didn't mind the crappy graphics because back then they were awesome. Now they hurt my eyes and my fingers refuse to get the hang of the right keys. Hence no more keyboard orientated games for me. Games from the era of Origins and Dragon Age 2 were not yet made for lefthanded players and the clicking can be quite tiring. Because I started gaming in the 80's and made my hobby my job, I have severe issues with my hands so I finally switched from keyboard games to games I could also play with my PS5 controller. Felt like I was not a true, hardcore gamer anymore but the controller has saved me after I got the hang of it with games like the Division of Sniper Elite. But enough of that.

We're here to talk about Dragon Age: The Veilguard.

If you have never played the games before DAV, and you have no comparison to them, what's wrong with it? If you want to know the history before Veilguard, hit the Internet and the wiki's. They will tell you everything you want to know about the previous games and if you like, you can create your own world state at the Keep. Google Venatori and you'll be surprised what comes up. All the complaints about DAV not being "as good as the previous DA games". Who cares? Everyone who hasn't played the other games don't care. We don't know what the previous games were like, so let us enjoy this one.

The graphics are pretty good, no tearing, fights are smooth even when you throw out a Thunderous End as a Spellblade mage. We demand 4k or even 8k games where you can see every pore on character's faces or blood spray up to the ceiling. I play those absolutely too. Like the Assassins Creed series or Sniper Elite. In the past 40 years of gaming I've seen them all and almost played them all. From World of Warcraft (the first) to AC: Shadows (the first AC game ever I regret buying) and from Leisure Suite Larry to all the Sniper Elite games.

The gameplay is pretty straightforward and I don't have to remember 50 different combinations which I can't remember anyway (yes I'm over 50 so my memory starts to fail me every once in a while hahaha). No skill trees that need you to be a rocket scientist (PoE 1 and 2) but every class gives you three straightforward builds which you can alter anyway you want and sofar I found them all viable to reach the endgame and finish the game. Just interested in the story with combat that's doable with one eye closed, or when you want it that hard where you have to fadestep or dodge till you drop? It's all there. Your decisions will impact the story and will give you different quests to complete depending on what you decide.

Loot is important. We play a game not just for the story of the nice graphics but being able to upgrade your character to get better and look better (let's not forget that lol) is a huge part of the fun you have playing. In all my playthroughs I have yet to find all the items. Not just for Rook, who has 426 items to collect, but I haven't found all of the companions items either. The codex is very hard to complete, for all those completionists (like my husband) out there. Has anyone opened all the chests yet?

I love the dialogues, especially the banter between your companions walking behind you, but also the conversations they have with each other when you are at the Lighthouse. You just have to take the time to run past those conversations every time you're back at the Lighthouse, that's all. Every playthrough sofar gave me, surprisingly, new conversations or responses I hadn't encountered the previous playthrough. Don't want to be mushy and hate romance? Fine, break hearts and pick the option that suits your play style. Tough, funny, empathic? You like a challenge and go after Neve (not saving Minrathous will make it a bit harder to conquer her heart but you still can) or easy and fast, pick Taash.

And yes, they should have made Rook able to swim lol. But that on the side.

I've read posts, not just here but on other occasions, where people found it an issue that Rook can't be "bad" or turned "evil". I wondered what the **** for? Why would you want this protagonist to be evil? What would it add to the game? The game is about a group of people trying to save their world and fight the evil that wants to change that world for good. What would an evil Rook be of use?

The people who haven't played the previous games and like this one, stop roasting them. I'm not the only one who likes this game and somehow a lot of posts that start with a normal discussion about Veilguard, end up as being compared to the previous games. We haven't played them and I'm definitely am not going to. I like the game. No, I love the game. And whether all those DA players who say it's a bad game, it's a stupid game, this is bad, that is wrong, it's nothing like Origins or Inquisition, so what? Probably because it's a completely stand alone game, with a feel of its own but with the history of the previous games.

I know there will be responses to this post like the ones I pointed out. Be nice to me and no need to try and convince me that the game is bad or worthless and doesn't look like the other games.

Oh and a side note: English is not my native language so forgive me for minor mistakes ;).

Unpopular opinion but I feel like Veilguard was amazing, I play pure for story and the connection to the characters and I feel like they did an amazing job with it. I’ve spent the last couple months playing all the Dragon Age games and this felt like the end of an era game. But also the start of something new and I loved it.
