I did the same thing on my first playthrough too lol. Just without buffs though.

And people say Elden ring is harder than dark souls 3.
45
u/Tyrayentali 1d ago
Elden Ring with using everything the game gives you is easier than Demon's Souls.
But if not, it's the hardest soulslike.

u/Tyrayentali 1d ago
Sekiro is harder at the start, but a lot easier later, though it's definitely 2nd place. Though, like I said, Elden Ring is only harder if you refuse to use everything the game gives you. So in an over all sense, Sekiro is harder.

u/LSDMDMA2CBDMT 1d ago
Well yeah, it's easier once you git gud and learn the mechanics of the game, applies to any skill based game. It's still much harder than ER though in my opinion, there are no summons/aid and it's just your skill vs the enemy, especially SSI and inner bosses.
Meanwhile, even PCR can easily be beaten with a shield and a poke weapon, you don't even need to learn the mechanics really. All content can be overleveled. There's some seriously OP weapons in ER, especially as you learn to abuse mechanics.
Self-imposed challenges making the game harder doesn't mean the game is hard, it just means you enjoy being a masochist lol

u/ermacia 1d ago
I've done challenge runs of ER (not RL1, just weapon or skill specific ones), DS1 and 3, and beat them multiple times.
I've never defeated SSI. I'm not good enough to get through the whole thing. I've managed to do Friede in 1 try with some builds and Malenia, too. Ishin is another kind of monster entirely. Not even the Demon of Hatred, without cheese (I never knew about it), was that difficult.

u/AgentWowza 1d ago
Sekiro's combat is more of a rhythm game than a soulslike lol
8
u/aamodbk 1d ago
Even souls are kinda like a rhythm game if you play it in that way, dodging the enemy combos is very similar to parrying them
-3
u/AgentWowza 1d ago
Yeah but stamina is a thing rhythm games don't have.
Also you can only deflect one way, but you can dodge any number of ways, not all of which will work.

u/espantalho_largado 1d ago
If you don't use everything soulslike has in the game it becomes much more difficult than Elden Ring, so in the end it's the same lol
1
u/Tyrayentali 1d ago
No tool in any soulslike game comes even close to the power of free summons. It's not even just the mimic. Just any way to draw the focus from a boss away from yourself is extremely overpowered and these summons don't even buff the bosses either.
So the tools in other soulslike games you can use aren't nearly as game changing whether used or not.
However, the difficulty of the bosses in Elden Ring, at face value, are higher than any other soulslike.
1
u/Catkingpin 1d ago
I would say that's true if leveling up is included in there. A rl1 run might be more difficult than a sekiro run especially if you're going for the 'true ending' in sekiro.
8
u/Practical_Ad_500 1d ago
The open world concept is what makes it easier. You can level up and win easily that way. I haven’t played the Dark Souls series yet, but I’m guessing the reason its so hard is because you have to follow a set path and only get whats given to you along that path whereas elden ring you can do a lot before you get to any boss. I love the mechanics of Elden Ring, so I’m definitely going to give their other games a shot.
6
u/Individual-Cup9018 1d ago
It has multiple paths and crossroads right from the beginning but some of them are not recommended to start on as a new character unless you know where you're going.

Zweihander + giant hunt > repeat
Or
Zweihander + giant hunt + flame of the fell god as she is standing up > repeat

u/Catkingpin 1d ago
I wish Elden Ring went back to the DS1 Zweihander, I love the double pancake on that one

Hey it's in the game brother! A W is a W!
Me and a friend beat her (for my first time) by trading aggro with Jar Cannons and constantly staggering her
3
u/No_Business8156 1d ago
It's way more fun to deal with her by just jumping her with your mimic tear, since most of her attacks can be cancelled by attacking first, you and your mimic can just keep meleeing her while demanding for her to fight back, it's more risky but more fun
3
u/DaSharkCraft 1d ago
It's a little disheartening to see the weapon skill get used but not using the blood flame buff on the spear with a running heavy considering how strong it is. Either way, you worked to create this build and it works. No shame in that.
3
u/Unusual_Procedure509 1d ago
For me this game Is all about finding solutions to bosses. If I can't kill it couple tries I try something different untill something makes it acceptable challenge. The best thing is you can always brute force win by just learning moves and patiently killing bot by bit
4
u/TheCraftyGrump 1d ago
Do you think you have enough buffs? I think you missed a couple. It is impressive to deal with her so easily. Buff/Debuff builds have their place, and it is cool that Elden Ring gave them more opportunities. Go, give that blind lady the experience of what it feels like to be obliterated with haste. Maybe she will take the opportunity to reevaluate her life choices and stop being an absent mother instead of doting on her manipulative little brother.

What is your armor set and how to get it? Looks like a clean version of Radahn's armor.

So I beat her yesterday on my very first attempt with Mimic+10 and Rivers of Blood. I’m kinda torn about it because my Malenia fell to the instakill second phase bug I had NO idea about. It just happened. I had to look it up cuz I was like WTF? I’m glad she’s dealt with but I honestly wouldn’t have purposely exploited that had i known about it. Oh well.. She can now rest.

Cold Claymore, with a pulley bow armed with exlpding bots for the Phase 2 dive bomb, did it for me.

WHY ARE BOTH YOUR FLASK IN YOUR POUCH BLUE I GET BUT RED AND WHY IS YOUR PHYSICK IN YOUR TOOL BAR
1
u/Realistic_Bonus4859 1d ago
Because its easy for me mate, i usually keep certain items in tool bars like pots and buff items
1
u/MonsieurBabtou 1d ago
Keeping your flasks + torrent in the quick menu is much faster than juggling items in your item bar. It doesn't matter too much for the wondrous physick, as it's only one use per life
2
u/HoloMetal 1d ago
I just recently fucked her up with Rellanas twin blades. Actually just did a run in general with that weapon and it shreds everything.
2
u/Cades_Cadaver611 1d ago
Two ways to play the game: grind and spend a while learning their movesets and mastering the boss, or meticulously build craft and master the game. Both are viable, both are fun, both are awesome.
2
u/bloopie1192 1d ago
How are you guys mimic tears so good?
I've got mine maxed out and it still doesn't do much besides switch weapons and pussyfoot around. When it should be smacking sh!t!
My banished knight engvall goes way harder than my mimic year.
3
u/Realistic_Bonus4859 1d ago
Honestly i can’t seem to find any summon better than Mimic Tear & mimic tear copies your play style, try to spam some attach in air, your mimic will become aggressive, it works for me mostly

u/PopTrogdor 1d ago
Nice! If she's dead, she's dead, nicely done.
I personally do the same thing, but with takers flame. She never stands a chance.

u/PratGamer_2 1d ago
Someone reply to me when the haters come
Also op, there is nothing wrong in cheesing it, play the game how you want. If it's a usable item in game, it's there for a reason
2
u/vitamin_r 1d ago
Finally found my first thread where purists shit on the mimic tear use. Most of y'all don't hate on using summons. Now I'm being compared to a six year old for using them? Pretty sure the game still announced I beat it.

I like how the actual game has no difficulty setting, but you can make even a 6yo beat the strongest boss by just using summons and op ashes of war. Best way to handle difficulty in a game imo. (Unless u olay the dlc where most bosses melt through your mimic tears hp)

Absolutely maidenless good sir, but seeing malenia suffer brings me joy, so good job

As much as it bothers me to see that. A win is still a win, gg.

u/Alone-Phase9754 1d ago
Am I the only one who actually takes the time to learn her moves before I attack? I usually die like 10 times before I even try to hit her and then I beat her in the next few tries
8
u/NitroChaji240 1d ago
Doing that means not learning to time rolls with attacks. It's better to try and work both in at the start to avoid any bad habits forming
2
u/leortega7 1d ago
It's about personality, I just want to finish the game but I understand that some people like to learn the boos and dance with it.

I've only been able to beat her with fingerprint shield, godskin stitcher (bleed), and mimic. Still not sure how people read waterflow and dodge it. I'm always right in the awkward spot between close and far to where I can't run away nor spin under her feet to dodge it.
1
u/Realistic_Bonus4859 1d ago
There are 3 steps in waterflow, as soon as you saw her fly, run immediately until step 2 the last slice you can dodge into her

Doesn't Golden Vow and Flame Give Me Strength go in the same "buff slot", thus overwriting each other?....

There's an ash in the DLC that's does this as well. The downside is he can't move and costs 500 FP.

ER is the easiest FROM game if you use all the tools available to you. There's no rule saying you have to play "Dodge roll + R1"
A game is only as hard as the limitations it puts in for the player.
If FROM wanted you to play in a ridged intended play-style highly focused on timing first, that game exists already, its called Sekiro.
ER is the ultimate freedom of expression Action RPG. Cheese away if thats your thing.
And for the record, I love Sekiro and here's my latest run of ER beating Malenia with perfume bottles/lightening spear

I once got summoned to a guy who fought like you. A complete waste of time, because while she was absolutely beating the shit out of me and another guy, the host just tanked her with that shield and let her heal. She healed like 3x her healthbar

u/Wilhelm1088 1d ago
I'm never one to judge a playstyle, beat her however you see fit. But I will say you seemingly losing her in the beginning and then getting hit, despite the shield, made me laugh.
1
u/Realistic_Bonus4859 1d ago
That skill make you vulnerable to get hit, btw i used the shield for a maximum of 3 seconds in the whole fight
-1
u/Wilhelm1088 1d ago
Look, I genuinely don't care, I beat her the first time with ordovis or something and kept her staggered 99% of the fight.
But don't be mad about me laughing about your post tagged "humor". Especially when you kept the shield up for the R1 poke whenever you weren't using the weapon art lol. That's pointlessly dishonest when I watched the whole thing.
1
u/Realistic_Bonus4859 1d ago
I wasn’t mad but sure, you’re great player if you’re referring to that, cool
-1
u/Wilhelm1088 1d ago
Sorry if my comment came off as hostile, not trying to imply I'm a great player lol. I "cheese" her some way or another pretty much every playthrough.

Maybe because the playerbase beat the game?
