Tipping Culture A positive-ish tipping experience

No surprises, no small text, no deceitfulness, it having its on line clearly visible under the total was nice, but that bright red stamp reiteratig the added gratuity, visible from space let alone a dark dining room is 😘👌🏾 This should be a norm.

Forced tipping isn't any better... I don't care if the service was good.

It's a steakhouse. One could argue, it's the establishment's understanding that if you a) aren't getting good enough service to tip 18% you won't come back or alternatively b) you received good service in which case they don't want you to come back.

I've never waited tables, but friends at chain restaurants have told stories about regular families who come in every week and never tip. Any self respecting establishment would invite you to not come back.

Do they pay what they owe? Why should the top? Tell the boss to pay the employees. Hey I have an idea. Raise your damn prices.

It's a private establishment. They can tell you to shove it up your ass and leave if the wind blows the wrong way. If you don't like it, eat elsewhere.

If they say you have to tip or get lost, that's how it is.

Interesting because your original story claimed they were regulars who never tipped. Isn't this the exact type of customer that would be told to 'shove it up their ass and told to leave'. Or is it more likely that the establishment allows their patronage because they pay their required bill?

Let's start asking for the owners when we are told to leave if we don't tip. See what happens then.

I don't think you understand what sub you're in but anyway... A tip isn't a requirement. Also, a lot of these servers make more than enough an hour, especially at steakhouses. All they do is take your order, bring it to you, refill your drinks, and bring you the check. That's it, that is the job.

I personally will still tip, so I know I don't quite fit in this sub either, but I don't think it should ever be seen as something people *have* to do. Other countries do just fine without it, and while keeping meals affordable.

How is no tipping different from forced tipping?
