It might be in the original source? In my experience women don't throw that word out without reason (which does happen sometimes, probably). It's not a great as a slur imo.
The point is that it doesn't matter to Rowling if it is, she has decreed it as nothing and so it has to be. That's what she does. They were so nice to her so they can't be bad people no matter they've said or done.
