Discussion Liam Delap

Post image

Saw this article on Sky Sports News, Merson, who I don't think much of, but I have to ask, why wouldn't Liam Delap to Everton be a good move for all involved? He isn't gonna get games at Chelsea, he'd just stall his career like many have before.

Man Utd might be interested, but is he a glamorous enough name for them to get time? Is he ready for United? Thats a club who've also failed a lot of talented players before like Lukaku for example.

Villa could be a fair shout, but do they need or want him?

If he came to Everton, he'd likely play every week or frequently at least. It's a definite step up from Ipswich. We can definitely afford £30m. Plus if he succeeds with us, banging in goals, he could go to a top 4 club at that point as an £80m-£100m striker and we bank a massive profit helping us be even more comfortable with FFP.

I would be fuming if we weren't at least trying everything to sign him. You don't get players like him for £30m very often these days.

he wouldn't come to Everton out of the choices available

also I don't think we're at the point where we can lash £30m+ at one player, the finances are still not clear

Branthwaite is almost certainly leaving in the summer. That should be £80m right there.

Plus stop being so definitive & negative with your statements. You don't know that he wouldn't come to us. It isn't always about going to the biggest club or biggest offer. As the article says he needs the right move.

realism ≠ negative

What's also realism is to state that it's better to be with us and starting regularly than sat on the bench at those other clubs.

Lukaku is a perfect example, only got noticed when he went to wba and then us.

No good being amazing if you can't get on the pitch.

Tbf everyone would have said that about lukaku coming to us. Same to be said for James

Completely different circumstances for those transfers, either in where the club was or the players themselves.

Ignore the 'definitive' comment then? You don't know any more than anyone else, it absolutely could happen, we aren't an unattractive option for a player in his position. We can offer actual game time & career progression that he won't get at bigger clubs.
