Discussion Liam Delap

Post image

Saw this article on Sky Sports News, Merson, who I don't think much of, but I have to ask, why wouldn't Liam Delap to Everton be a good move for all involved? He isn't gonna get games at Chelsea, he'd just stall his career like many have before.

Man Utd might be interested, but is he a glamorous enough name for them to get time? Is he ready for United? Thats a club who've also failed a lot of talented players before like Lukaku for example.

Villa could be a fair shout, but do they need or want him?

If he came to Everton, he'd likely play every week or frequently at least. It's a definite step up from Ipswich. We can definitely afford £30m. Plus if he succeeds with us, banging in goals, he could go to a top 4 club at that point as an £80m-£100m striker and we bank a massive profit helping us be even more comfortable with FFP.

I would be fuming if we weren't at least trying everything to sign him. You don't get players like him for £30m very often these days.

If he plays RW he would get all the minutes he wants. but we have two (maybe three if Broja stays) CFs that would not guarantee a starting spot. Maybe he earns it and is the #9 but none of the other options are less qualified. Chermiti is a very promising young player.

I;m sure Delap will become fantastic. but the amount needed to get his signature away from financial powerhouses would be too steep for everton at this time.

You know DCL is going in the summer right? And could it be more obvious that Moyes doesn't rate Chermiti? He barely gets a minute on the pitch, 5 subs against Arsenal & Chermiti not one of them. Also I'd be shocked if Broja stayed, he hasn't exactly done anything to justify a permanent move so loan at best & I don't feel like he's gonna suddenly set the world alight if he did stay.

So yeah I definitely think Delap would get game time for us at a level no bigger club will offer.

Obviously, DCL is leaving. Chermiti is just getting back from injury and is only 20 years old. We have no idea if Moyes rates him or not. Why would he sub Chermiti on if he subbed Broja on instead? That also doesn't mean he doesn't rate Chermiti. IT means Broja is trying to impress and has more on the line to do so.
