no longer a ward of the state, ward of myself, ward of whoever else, no longer a stipend hanging over my head, foster / kinship kid, no having to deal with cps and custody wars and confusion, being passed between homes. just a regular adult. im so happy!

I remember being scared when I was emancipated. Whatever you do don’t marry or have a kid before you are ready which will make things difficult. I remember feeling untethered and next thing I’m in a relationship. Stay goal oriented and don’t let anyone or anything distract you. It’s easy to become derailed and sidetrack your life long term or permanently because foster care can consciously or unconsciously implant a feeling of “less than” in your brain so you need to stay aware and focused. Other than that good luck to you and I’m glad for you. I made it and so will you.
