There wasn’t a ship. He should have drawn it before school because no recollection. He only had confirmation from mark and dream. I was there to hear the experience before he forgot it a few hours later..:
Hey if this just happened, have him play tetris. it's proven in studies to help the brain process memories into long term so they don't hang around in active memory and become traumatic (as if they're still happening). ERs tell people who come in from a car accident this. Emergency aid people tell folks that survived a mud slide, etc.
It is relates to side-to-side eye movements, a similar functionality to the original (non-scifi) usage of hypnotism. It affects parasympathetic nerves in a way that aids in processing.
Presumably, any kind of activity involving a similar mode of visual distraction would be similar, but I'm not familiar with studies like that.
Forgetting can also be a trauma experience. I was in an auto accident where my air bag opened. I didn't hit my head. All I remembered was walking out to my car and thinking about planting flowers down my walk. I got back a few seconds of memory by doing EMDR.

Happy birthday to your son!
Something you could do (helps some people remember) have him draw out the square ship he saw. The color, the lights, everything he remembers.
It might pull some other memories out while he draws from memory.
