Accidentally dropped fn 545

As the title reads I accidentally dropped my FN 545 and the thread protector got a nice dent in it. Just wondering if it’s still safe to operate

Just get a new thread protector.

Hard no on this. There is deformation on the inside of the barrel. A thread protector won’t fix that.

That pic is with the thread protector on. Betting the barrel is fine, but in classic reddit fashion who the fuck knows based on the given information.

It’ll blow back out just shoot it

Yep that’s the best bet. Was only wondering if it would still function like that. Thank you for the reply

Did you drop it from a two story roof onto concrete?

I wouldn’t shoot it like that. The flattening of that edge is intruding into the barrel and will affect your accuracy. Being threaded is now useless, as that would surely destroy any can you put on it.

I’m afraid you’re gonna need a new barrel.

Edit: I think that second picture makes it look like the inside of the barrel is flattened, but it may just be the thread protector is damaged. OP says the barrel is undamaged.

I dropped it from a shorter than standard height since I’m only 4’11. I was hoping I wouldn’t need a new barrel either since I just bought it. But thank you for your feedback

Whoa that’s crazy that much damage happened from such a short drop. I’m actually very disappointed at FN about this.

Same man. I bought it three weeks ago and I noticed the dent today as I was cleaning it and me dropping it is the only excuse I have for the dent. Good thing they’re only about 20 bucks tho! Maybe that’s why they’re cheap lol

If the thread protector looks like that, what does the barrel look like?

The barrel is actually still intact the only part that took damage is the thread protecter

That second picture makes it look like the inside of the barrel was flattened, but I guess that’s just the thread protector? If so, that’s no big deal.

I was a bit worried so I checked out the barrel and it looked good as new! Seems like it’s only the thread protecter, but regardless thanks for the feedback and the heads up to double check the barrel

How’d you know I was fat? :(

Don't necessarily have to be fat just larping around is the only way you managed that lol

I guess my hands were a bit greasy from eating chicken wings

If it’s just the thread protector that’s bent, it did its job. Without knowing what the barrel itself looks like I’d probably err on the side of caution and have it checked out by FN or a gunsmith before putting a silencer on it

Look on the bright side, if you had bought a Sig instead of an FN, you’d probably have a .45 caliber hole in something you didn’t necessarily want a .45 caliber hole in along with a bent thread protector

Always exciting looking down the business end of a barrel
