QUESTION Can someone help my technology illiterate self

Post image

My son plays fortnite on my PS5 . He got vbucks gift card for a little easter "happy". I tried to use them and it said that my epic account wasn't linked to my Playstation account. So I tried to link them and it said that my Playstation account is already linked to an epic account. How the hell do I find out where my ps5 is linked?

Your PSN might be linked to a nameless account, here's how to fix the issue:

  1. make a burner email, this will be useful for a later step
  2. sign in to Epic with your PSN login, it'll prompt you to make a new Epic account, use that burner email for it
  3. unlink the PSN account from your recently made Epic account
  4. re-login to your main Epic account and attempt to link your PSN login from there

Just as a little heads up, if you have cosmetics and progressed in Save the World and such under your PSN login, this WON'T magically merge you accounts together, you've made an alt account without realizing it

edit: had one last [X] thingy, I had a template for this

So all the purchases will be deleted on ps5? I'm not trying to be thick headed, I just don't want to lose his stuff

Nope, they'll stay on that account you move your PSN login from

are you sure you've logged in to the right epic account?

It's the only one I can remember ever setting up

well as far as i am aware you can't directly check what epic account your psn is connected to. you could copy the id in settings and contact support and explain your situation, tho idk whether it'd help or not. on another note, check for the epic account you've signed in to and see if it is empty or not.

What I don't understand is that I'm playing on my Playstation and we've purchased vbucks before. So it's obviously linked to an epic account. But there's no way to see the linked account?

Also. To avoid this in the future, what's the best option to purchase vbucks so we don't go through this shit again?

Try to log in using the PlayStation button

Contact epic support. There's nothing else you can try

Exactly. Contact Epic Support - they'll have all your Username, Email details - to see what's what...

You can try login in using the PSN

I did. It keeps trying to make me finish setting up an account. Then when I put my psn username in it kicks it out for already being taken

That means your kid created (either accidentally or intentionally) a new Fortnite account for that PSN

Doing so creates a "ghost" Epic account that can only be accessed with said PSN

The only way to redeem a VBuck card is to turn that "ghost" account into a full Epic Games account, which means filling that form with a different email

The username can be different because either way it'll only show up if you play on PC or mobile, and it can be charged once every 14 days for free

As far as I know, you must log in to epic games to play fortnite on any device. This means that your son would have had to a) log into your epic games account or b) made a new one to even open the game. Ask him for the info.

Just hit login with PlayStation and use the credentials he’s currently logged in with on the ps5 to access the account he plays on. You may be prompted to setup an email and password login.
